Are there any VAMs for a 1926-S Peace Dollar?

If so, what is it and could you give a picture or some info about it?

Thank you for your help!!

The two varieties listed in the Top 50 Peace VAM book are the 'Dot' Variety (VAM-4) and a Doubled Reverse (VAM-5). the Dot variety features a small circular lump of metal on the reverse under the leafs near the eagle's claw. Picture of that variety follows.

  • Thanks for your help, Greg.

There is no 'dot' in the area that you have specified. I am not a vammer or anything, but the only thing that I see is a clash mark on the reverse (I believe it is the back of Liberty's neck on the obverse) and what looks like a faint die gouge in the rays (about 1 or 2 cm to the right of the 'dot' you showed) .

    Thank you!
  • I see the dot. It is under the 2nd left from the left. Its rather big.

That one gets a lot of people who don't do VAMs. Congrats on figuring out it is just a clash and not a significant gouge. You migh also see a spike up from the eagle's shoulder.

  • Here's a 1926-S VAM 5 (double reverse) as well that is in the top 50. Easiest way to locate this one is the doubling to the right of the two top leaves. A very hard coin in 63+

  • After looking at the pictures and the info that you have provided, my Peace is not a VAM-4 or VAM-5.

    Thanks for your help, everyone!!

That's the best image I've seen of the 1926-S DDR VAM-5. Nice Pick Up Point neatly illustrated.

  • This is actually Randy's PCGS MS-64 coin that he won in a Heritage auction. I just imaged off of Heritage's archives. It's the only coin I haven't photographed in hand... why.... because I can't find one... image
