Remember the ecu d'or I had, O Dead Monarch? That is one of the ones I had that you actually got to see in person.

If memory serves correctly you were collecting Liteside Franklin halves at the time. image

Absolutely stunning piece of coinage there. A perfect example of why browsing NEN's website can be dangerous.

At least Franklin halves are coins. Get him to tell you about the time he sold me a lot of his Victorian coin collection because he was using the money to buy Liteside political collectibles! image

(Actually, the political collectibles are kinda neat, even if they aren't coins. And I'd better not pursue this line of taunting too far, or he'll say something about my postcard collection.)

I think NEN is second only to this message board in terms of hazardousness to my financial well being. Coin posts containing NEN coins are the worst of all!

    Cool coin

    excuse me a minute...

While everyone is in the medieval gold mood I'd like to show you one of my latest joys
    Belguim (Brabant) 1 Real d'or Charles V 1506-1555 NGC AU-55

If it looks familiar to some of you it is because GDJMSP first posted it here in Sept 2004.( Charles V ) I recently acquired it from his collection.

    I dunno...

I think they could have fit one more fluer-de-lis in that obverse design, if they really tried...

Medieval French gold (or medieval English gold for that matter) [to break into a Tina Turner song] is simply the best, better than all the rest.
