I know it's a semi-key date, but I am quite suprised at the price realized!!!

First the disclaimer......this is my auction.....it is now completed....and I have nothing else up for sale so.......other than to spam my Ebay name.....which happens to be the same as my forum name....I am completely innocent of all charges image

I picked this up last year while searching closing items on Ebay and paid a grand total of around $25, which I thought was a fair price.

Here is what it just closed at so...........

1884-S Morgan PCGS VF30

I am not complaining that I doubled my money but it does beg the question..........is this coin really worth $50 bucks image

It's a nice coin. People are overpaying for the look AND the plastic.

The '84-S is really a common below EF.

No, it's worth seventy five if you could have held out for another year or so. It took you a long time to flip ! Keep in mind Shane... There are ebay fees, pay pal fees, and S&H . You did okay but you didn't double your money.

If it's not worth fifty bucks and the buyer sees this post, he or she may think you are laughing at them image So, YES, it's worth fifty bucks image

  • Very true joe....but this is one of those oddball coins that had no place in my collection....I don't own any circulated Morgans so if your going to dump a coin....it certainly nice to...almost double your money image

P.S. I don't laugh at folks for potentially overpaying....if you saw some of the premiums I paid for toned coins........you'd have me locked up in a straight jacket image

It is a key in mint state but hardly so around that grade, even problem-free in holders. Looks like a number of them took it up beyond what it was worth. I guess some coins like this are getting the owners slabbing fees recovered too. Also, if we see a bit more of this on good dates in these middle circulated grades, that might reveal a strong component of the market growing. I know there are a lot of folks who would like to do date/mm sets of Morgans but have to work around this grade, which poses some challenges too (like for 85-CC and 03-O).

  • Your buyer is snatching up Morgans left and right - maybe working on a set??

Not to me. But someone may need it for christmas or a set or is just tired of waiting for just the right coin or vam or thinks it may upgrade or some other reason that we dont know. It is worth whatever it sells for (IMHO). Bob
