I guess $3800 isn't enough of a return on a $180 investment.

I'd rather have a speared bison in nickel than a stuck pig in silver image
The winner out of all of these 20th anniversary coins will be the reverse proof in GOLD.

That's my opinion, but I completely understand the seller ending the auction early. It's a free country but the listing fees sure aren't image

Hey whay happening here ...I have counted 4 auctions for AGEs and SAEs that have ended early without sale in the past couple days . Are prices too low or are expectations too high ?

Expectations are too high. The value of these sets has dropped even faster than normal.

Those prices are better than the current (almost closing) price of the set that Russ has for sale:

    Still under $3k

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

The buyer stole it at that price! People just don't realize there will only be ~120 first strike silver RP70's after all the grading is done, if that!

But, does anybody really give a crap about FIRST STRIKE
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

No , some wiseacre named russ bought it, he just couldnt see it going for that price unless he put his 2 cents in (or a bit more than 2 cents)

I don't think its the First Strike as much as it is the 70 grade. Be interested to see what a PCGS 70 Non First Strike will go for.

    There is already 139.

Plus I'm sure there are more to come.

Then you have Non First Strike, which seem to sell for less, but non the less, Rev. Pr 70.

  • pf70collectorpf70collector Posts: 6,735 ✭✭✭
Maybe it is the First Strike Designation bringing the premium.
  • I am a little nothing who was lucky enough to get a Reverse Proof, First Strike 70. That is going nowhere since I never would be able to afford one otherwise. Puritan

If I were you I would sell it in a heartbeat, pocket $4500 and still buy a FS RP 69 eagle. Then you can spend the $4500 on christmas or a real coin/coins. After all it is just a slab of silver that has no "real" history behind it. Pick up a gold half eagle from 1861 and imagine where that coin has been and what types of transactions transpired with it during the civil war and after.

They will when PCGS decides to include First Strike recognition in the Registry.
It's just makes good business sense for them to do that, in my opinion. More early submissions with the extra first strike designation fee!
If that happens, watch these puppys go through the roof!

I haven't looked lately but aren't the American Silver Eagles series the most popular series in the Registry?

When the first strike RP silvers were first being graded, they were making 70's at a paultry 2.7% of all RP's graded, all First Strike.
There just weren't too many that got 70 early on.

Now at a rate of making 70 at 4.7% or so, either the mint is making better RP's, or PCGS is loosening the RP 70 criteria, but NOT for First Strike, as most of these have been graded at the lower "make" percentages (2.7%-3.5%).
That is why I contend that the latest 139 number (and that undoubtably includes some non-first strike coins) is really comprised of
roughly 100 first strike coins, with not too many more to be graded!

If 47 more first strike coins are to be graded 70, there will have to be at least 1000 more first strike eligible sets left to be graded.
I don't think there are many unopened eligible sets shipped before 11/11 left, so this low 100 pop count will not increase that much more First Strike coins.

    Get-em while they are CHEAP!

-I think there are plenty of these still being held in their sealed boxes. I just shipped one out the other day to a forum member.
