1886-O Morgan Micro O - New Variety, Counterfeit or ?

I haven't been able to find any documentation on the small "o" mintmark for this coin. Has anyone ever seen a 1886-0 like this one before?

I have an 1889-O like that. Recently made cheap Chinese counterfeit.

The reverse of 1921 on an 1886 coin is a dead-giveaway...

It has been determined by the major grading services that the 1896, 1900, and 1802 Morgans with the micro-O are all contemporary counterfeits

  • Ah-so this is what they mean when they say the Chinese are devaluing US dollars?

Thanks for the information and education. I see from the Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace Dollars the difference in the reverses as you astutely pointed out. Much appreciated.

Obvious counterfeit. The reverse is even a D reverse, one that didn't exist in 1886 as it was produced for the 1921 resumption of Morgan dollar coinage.
