New VAM Discoveries!

Got two of my four boxes back form Leroy today. In addition to the discoveries, he authenticated my 1878 8TF as a VAM-14.19! How cool is that? As usual, several of the ones I sent were discovered by others fairly recently. I shuld let them know in case they are keep a census.

Herb -- just ignore the paper creases in the images I posted. Leroy always folds them up to fit into the boxes. They would be cool if they were indeed radial coin cracks. -- JC

The clashed N on the 89-P next to the neck and the clashed I on the 21-S are a nice added bonus.
Congratulations on the new findings.

Congratulations on the new VAMs... but WOW! on the 14.19!
<< <i>Congrats! Looks like Leroy had a copy/paste error on his description of the 1892-O VAM 17 >>
Thanks. I wonder if he meant to give me one other one as I had at least a 1902-P with such a gouge. The 92-O VAM-17 was a new die pair, the DDO obverse of VAM-11 with a standard reverse (no legend doubling).

<< <i>A 14.19?!!!!
Congratulations on the new VAMs... but WOW! on the 14.19!
It was driving me nuts. The coin is VG and lightly cleaned. I knew it was an A1d reverse without the gouge in the A. I figured VAM-6 or VAM-14.8, but it didn't match either. I knew for sure it wasn't the VAM-6. Since I could not convince myself that it was indeed VAM-14.8, I added it to the current box at the time to go to Leroy. What I had discounted was that the images in Jeff's attribution guide for VAM-14.19 that showed the date cracks were for the terminal state. Leroy found the weak die scratches in the recessed area of the cap fold and knew it was the earlier state of the VAM-14.19. That is something to bear in mind if you are looking for that variety, that not all of them will have the tell-tale date cracks. Without them, I would make such a note if submitting them for variety service though.
