Cowboys cut Vanderjaqt

The Cowboys released Vanderjaqt and signed Martin Gramatica. I knew vandy was having a bad season, but I didn't expect this. Wow! Hopefully he will do better than vandy.

Good move for the Cowboys in my opinion.

Wow, just read the ESPN article. Sounds like Parcells did not like him, which made the situation worse.

Maybe the Patriots should consider picking him up -- with a change of scenery and an Belechick-style attitude adjustment, he might revert to what he is capable of.

I feel bad for the guy. I hope he works it out.

Not sure if Gramatica is the anwser either...pretty accurate not a very strong leg if I recall correctly.
I would not be surprised to se a 3rd kicker before the year is out.

If someone is having a bad year then sometimes drastic action is needed. I'm sure he feels humiliated but will probably
be signed with another team fairly soon.

Brilliant. Cut the most accurate kicker in NFL history because his performance has been spotty over his first 14 or so FG attempts this year.

No wonder Parcells hasn't won anything since Belichick left him.

Well Vandy has been bad since his miss against Pittsburg last year. I got this from another website.
"Way back in training camp, the Cowboys and Patriots swapped scouts. I looked for a motive and made this prediction:

Bill Parcells has expressed some frustation with Mike Vanderjagt’s output, or lack thereof. He hasn’t kicked off yet in camp. He’s nursing a sore leg. If Vanderjagt does come around, his short kickoff leg may force Dallas to keep a kickoff specialist, something the special teams obsessive Parcells would rather not do.

The Patriots, on the other hand, are watching a kicker’s duel. Veteran Martin Grammatica and rookie Stephen Gostkowski have nailed every kick put in front of them. Gostkowski was New England’s fourth-round pick in April’s draft. His big price tag and longer kickoff leg give him the current edge. Age has robbed Grammatica of his long-distance cannon, but reports from Pats camp suggest he can still get kickoffs to the goal line with some frequency. If Vanderjagt’s sore leg takes too long for Parcells’ liking, Dallas might look to New England for insurance."

It can also be a message to the rest of the team; that Bill will not put up with subpar play. Mike kept saying that he could turn it on when it counted, but he missed twice against the Colts.

I've watched more Cowboys games than I care to and concur that the decision was a good one for the team
