How come boxes of packs have never been called "cartons"?

I mean, you have packs of cigarettes in cartons, candy bars and chewing gum come in cartons, so how come boxes of trading cards were never called cartons? Sounds like "box" could be too easily confused with say, a storage box full of cards or even a cardboard case.

    I've never heard of candy bars or gum being sold in "cartons".

    Maybe it's kinda like how "cargo" is carried by ships, but "shipments" are carried by cars. You just go with it. image

    I think the pack vs carton thing evolved from the fact that some packs of cigarettes actually came in boxes.

    Good question tho - perhaps I'll put that in my next - "points to ponder" thread.

    I've been taking notes of things that confuse me in life.

    And I get confused real ez!
