Quick opinions on GAI grading, please.

Are they reputable? Is their grading scale comparbale to PSA? Are they known for accepting trimmed cards like GEM??

Thanks for your help image

I think it's a little unfair to put them in the same class as GEM. They do not intentionally overlook trimmed cards the way GEM does. I certainly consider them more competent at catching trimmed cards than BGS.

The only issue I have ever had with GAI is that some of the cards I had graded by them were later sent to PSA in which they came back from PSA as non holdered miscut. Most of my other crossovers from GAI to PSA have come back equal to or a half grade below PSA.Some actually came back better than PSA.

I have only about 10 vintage GAI cards in my collection...all purchased via ebay. I have been pleased with all ten in regards to my perceived grade and the actual grade of the card. I have no hesitation to purchase GAI at all. I am a lttle apprehensive to send to them to grade simply because It has been my expereince that they selll for less than PSA and SGC graded cards. This is due to public perception, not quality in my opinion.

I'm now at the point whereby I'll shortly be sending in all my vintage GAI graded cards to SGC for cross-over, and I no longer care if it crosses over to the same grade or something lower.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

If you don't mind, please let us know how the cross-over goes.

    Thanks!

Rather than start a new thread, might as well bump this one.

What has been your experience when it comes to a cross-over?

For example, something graded by GAI as a 6.5 equals what for a PSA?

  • My GAI 5 turned to a BGS 4

I have one GAI 9.5 . It's a modern rc that looks good. If I was to guess it would be a psa 9 or 10

Excluding an autographed card that has been graded as AUTHENTIC by GAI, this is the only Graded card I have right now I think it looks pretty darn good and is fairly consistent with the other big 3. Haven't gotten around to crossing it though.

    Thanks guys.

So a majority believe it will cross over give or take half a grade (ie 6.5 could be a 6 or 7)? However, it could get knocked down a full point and a half (6.5 becomes a 5)?

about equal. plus or minus 1 grade. same can be said for just resubmitting to the same company anyway, for the most part.
