1902 S Morgan Dollar Expert help needed Doubled Die Arrow's Blade ....Thanks.

I was looking at the album where this Morgan was inserted and I just noticed something. The bottom arrow's blade is Doubled (see picture)?. Has anybody ever seen a Morgan like this? Today is the first time that this Morgan ever left the album. Also, opinions on the coin and the grade is greatly appreciated!!

AU58 GRADE. I have not seen this before but I have not actually looked for it. Terrific coin it has a nicer look than many that might grade higher

Looks like VAM 3, 5, or 6, depending on what else is doubled.image

There are no Hot 50 or Top 100 1902-S's and the 3 VAMs I just mentioned are R-3's, very common.

But this will TTT the thread and maybe someone else will see something I missed.image

I sent my 1902-S to Leroy in my first box last Spring. The upper left wing (right side to viewers like us) is doubled. I noted the back of the arrow, but it looked a lot more like a featherish chip along the edge under a loupe. It may bave been polished that way as mine is a prooflike. The obverse is different from yours, as I have a filled 2; but it is not at all uncommon to have various pairings of the dies. Leroy didn't want to make a new attribution on mine. (I thought it was silly as the wing doubling is on par with the 1900 VAM-11 and VAM-24.)

edited to add>> Oh right, now I remember. Leroy correctly assessed mine as VAM-7 which I, for some odd reason, overlooked. Yours might be VAM-5.

To answer your original question again, yes, this is common for that date. Four out of the six identified and discriminated reverses for the date are C4/C3, which include this feature among other natural doublings like the olive on the branch.

Do you have a VAM book? If not, you might find it something interesting to have.
