We've only sold 8 tables for our club's annual show next week...
...I think we may be in BIG trouble.
We usually sell 25+ tables but with one week to go we have only sold 8 tables. Rent for the hall is $750 a day (2 day rental) so it looks like our club is going to take in the shorts on this one.
Plus, Nebraska is playing in the Big 12 Championship game on Saturday (the first day of the show) so I have a feeling people will have other things on their minds than coins that day.

the other thing would be to contact dealers again....lot of us our last minute creatures of habit...maybe if nothing else is happening they will come aboard.....good luck and keep us posted!
<< <i>The big question is why have you gone from 25 tables to 8..... something must have happened that caused mass exit?

I agree with Jon. Also it would be nice to know why the dealers who used to do the show aren't doing this one, perhaps ask those dealers why they're not attending.

Can you maybe put the game on there? Not sure how big of a problem folks would have with it at a public venue like that if commercials were left on.

<< <i>Probably the Sunday special option would be a good one to go with. Does sound like the game is a major impediment for Saturday. That would not be a bad one for cherrypicking though.

Not a bad idea, especially if you mute the sound.

A lot of times, I'd sell tables at the show as sellers would show up without a reserved table, just hoping or expecting to get one anyway. I understand how you feel.
The week before the show, I'd load up with anyone willing to take a table with other collectables, if the tables were going unsold.
I see a couple things you said though, that would trouble me if I were doing your show, Coinhusker.
First, you're doing a two day show. That's too much for a small coin club.
Just make it one day show, and do it twice a year. Try to do it the same weekend of the same months at the same place, if that's possible.
Next is the hall rental cost. That $750 a day is unreasonable.
Find something for -$400 a day. You may have to do some hunting, but it's important to keep costs down.
Tables should sell for $35 to $45 each, with a backup table for each.
You're not going to get dealers to a small show if the table costs are too high.
You should push for 35 to 45 tables sold, even if you have to take stamp dealers, or some other type of collectables dealers.
You have to fill up the tables.
You have to put out flyers, and at least one advertisement in a local paper so you have buyers for the dealers.
Last, do what you can to avoid conflict and competition. You see what harm a sports event on the same day may cause you.

UGH!
I went to a local show one time in Oklahoma City, 83 I think, there on business, stayed an extra day to catch the Saturday show...only 45% of the tables were numismaticaly related. The rest were knives, stamps, jewelry, military hardware, ball caps, t-shirts, paintings, bows & arrows, safes (that was OK) even one table had spin art.
I was very disappointed but I guess they may have had the same problem about filling tables back then too.
Best of luck and Go Huskers!

Just wondering how everything went for the show...
