Is this 1916-S Buffalo nickel too porous to be certifiable?

Not if you're sending it to ANACS or NCS.

That is one of the requirements to be here.
Back to the nickel. From the image, I don't feel PCGS or NGC would grade it.

So...what's going on under the Chief's chin in that 1916-S?
James Earle Fraser's model of the Buffalo Nickel, first issued in 1913

WoodenJefferson,
Under the chin on Buffs you may often find EPU clash marks from the reverse die as on this example.
I agree that this would BB from PCGS/NGC cleaned/environmental damage. Could be PVC. AU details, net XF.

Hmmm... This coin has serious environmental damage and has been cleaned. I hope you didn't break the bank on it.
