Very little interest, and the cards on the top of the panels (Schmidt, Rose, Jackson, etc) are impossible in anything higher than PSA 6.
  • Ahh TrueValue! I remember getting a huge quantity of them back in the day, and we were selling them at a few bucks a set. Ralston Purina sets bring back memories too! Anybody remember the Quaker Granola bar cards?

I have a bunch of the Quaker Chewy sets. Also an uncut sheet. I ate a butt load of granola bars that year!

I got the cards - my wife ate the bars - I'm not partial to healthy eating.

psa will grade the true value but not the granola. i had some sweet ones that were returned. btw, i thought when they returned your cards for "holder not available" that they sent you vouchers since you paid for the grading...

    Thanks,

I too have a whole set of them; I got them because my old man used to go to the True Value at Philpot, KY a lot at the time. I'm also a huge fan of Long John Silvers, and hence why I got the 1990 Starline Long John Silvers set (gotta love those bright colorful borders).

Isn't it amazing how sets that may be worth next to nothing in the price guide, but still bring back great memories for some collectors to make them worth their while? That's what's so great about the hobby, isn't it? image

My father owned a True Value Hardware store in 1986. I dont even want to tell you how many of those cards were sent to each store! We gave some away at the store and I sold loads of others. I used the money to buy 1986 Donruss for the Canseco Rookies! I have a few left but have never even considered submitting any because the conditions are just horrible.

i just separated a true value set. i was looking at the ripken, looked at the pop report (0) and then looked at the ripken master registry set. i noticed the true value cards were not in the ripken set (are they in any player reg set?) but yet the 86 quaker oats card IS in the master set, yet PSA will not grade these. maybe this has been discussed before.

    Thanks,

    Estil

    That's profoundly true!

My son started to open some 92F cellos in the car while we drove home from the Px and the excitement when he pulled the first Rookie Sensation still reverberates in my ears 14 yrs later!!!

    image

This was the first pull - I still have the card and it's the MOST VALUABLE CARD IN MY COLLECTION!!
I will probably never have the fun I did - when Justin was small - again - the joy of watching a child at a card shop - flea market - Kmart etc. is hard to put in words.

  • I have had the request in for two months to add the True value card to the Pete Rose Master set. I will have to dig mine up. I can't remember the grade. I'm not sure if it was better then a six or not.

that card looks flawless too.. its kinda a tough set to find in real mint condition.. usually there is always a touch of white on a corner..

i just checked the pop report, and there has never been a PSA 10 graded from the set..

Very true....and like the Long John Silver set which I also remember well (remember the posters like the cards you could order?), were pretty hard to put together.

Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

I would pay a pretty penny for a Schmidt in high grade!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
