To label or not to label . . .

anyone sent in a submission label-less? I usually neatly print sub and line numbers on address labels and apply to each card per PSA instructions.

Today's sub - 140 strong - went without labels. Someone please ease my worried mind and tell me they've done this before.

I have sent in about 5 subs from 10 cards to 100 and never bothered with it. Never any problems. Bye the way, I live close to the PSA headquarters and drop off my cards once a month when you can. A while back I asked them the same question and they said they would prefer it, but would not hold up the submission if that was the only issue.

Good luck with your cards and grades.

  • Thanks, Jeff.

Dropped off a submission once and was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Alton Ave. Screwed up my rental! The illegals sped away.

Bad mojo, man. Think I'll just continue to mail from VA.

From what I can gather, the sticker is only used when absolutely necessary. Let's say you are submitting some oddball issues for your player registry and your CS1's get out of order in your package you sent to PSA. The labels may come in handy to put the submission back into order without PSA trying to figure out the 27 different cards of Mark McGwire from 1998.

But for the most part, I can't imagine the labels being important. If they were, I think they would ask for them to be placed on the front of the CS1.

  • I have sent in small submissions, say 20 cards without labels. No problems.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • I have never put labels on mine and never had a problem with slow processing.

The only time labels make it on my subs is when wifey helps me as well image
  • I used to have my sixth-grade students write them out by hand for me. Then, I realized it was much easier and faster to do using Microsoft Word.

    Program for PSA submission labels

I have written a program that generates labels for use with PSA submissions. These are the labels with the submission number and line number that are attached to the back of the card savers. The labels are printed on standard sheets of Inkjet address labels. For convenience I used Avery label numbers. The program is written in Windows Script Host (WSH). The program basically starts Microsoft Word., asks a few questions about type of label, starting label position, (for partial label sheets), submission account number and line numbers from the submission form. The program then sets the page margins and draws the labels. The program only supports one sheet of labels at a time. For more labels run the program again and change the starting line number. Program does not initiate printing. If you don’t like what you see just close Word and start over. Download the program from the link. The program name is PSALabels.vbs. If your system will not allow a download of a .vbs file then download the file PSALabels.txt. Rename the PSALabels.txt file to PSALabels.vbs. Run the program by double clicking on the icon or file name. To see how it all works just accept the defaults when you first run the program. You may have to maximize Word to see the output. Also print on plain paper to check for alignment. I have tried the program under Win98SE and XP using Office 97, Office2000 and Office2003. As far as copyright: There ain’t no copyright. Do whatever you want to with the program or code.

To download the program, right click on the program link and select “Save Target As”. When the dialog box appears, select the location to download the program to. Important!: On my system the download renamed PSALabel.vbs to PSALabel.mpeg. Before you do the download, change the name back to PSALabel.vbs.
