Whaddaya think? The feedback is ok - member since '99 - highjacked account? I'm going to ask him if he sent this.

I've forwarded it to ebay and will update here if the member responds.

Man, don't ever, never log into e-bay from a remote site!

LOL - I know that! That's why I posted this here!!

Thanks for your concern though WJ - everyone here is savvy enough but you'd be surprised how ignorant some folks still are

  • Your account may have already been hijacked. You don't have to log in to e-bay but by hitting the "link" it can capture your info. If you notice, the real e-bay sign-on screen is started by https, the "S" meaning it is secure. You clicked on an unsecured link and who knows what your computer gave up.

uh...not really. Clicking on a link does not allow a site to get your account info. Just never enter any private info into a page that the URL is not where it is supposed to be. Always check the url especially with a paypal payment page or something.

I don't understand how you think this happened. Do you understand what you're proposing here and how it might work or are you just speculating?

Unless you type your password, it generally can't be stolen.

Note that legitimate e-bay messages cannot contain html. of course the way to double check is to just see if it is in our message inbox on ebay. --Jerry

  • As soon as you go to any site via a link or bookmark etc, your computer and the host server "talk" to each other, however briefly. This CAN allow viruses, trojans etc etc. You don't have to enter information for this to happen but hey, fill your boots if you want to.

It was - which is why I'm thinking it's a highjacked account.

Right. Your Ebay account information may be secure (for now), but the site you're being sent to can potentially do a lot of nasty things, depending on your security settings. (Keylogger, anyone?)
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Viruses sure, but not usernames and passwords

A virus/keylogger can steal passwords and a lot more. I assume nobody here is having unprotected keyboard functions. You must have a virus program with an active update subscription running at all times.

I rarely do but wanted to show the forum. 11 years online and not one virus. Must be doing something right.
  • I got one of these too

Did ebay ever check it out and let you know the deal?
