An original seated dime......not a blast white gem

Folks...at the Baltimore show and after checking the upcoming Heritage auction selections, it is clear that more and more blast white coins are appearing in TPG holders, especially NGC. I'm not a fan of blast white coins and believe that the original patina should be left on a coin. Here is an example of a gem original dime that I would never dip.

That's an attractive original dime. Some original coins can be unattractive but yours has nice eye appeal.
  • very original... I like it!

Both dimes are beautiful, but I have to admit that the 1839-O is a smoking hot coin!image

I was showing this H10 to a collector friend about 6 months ago and he suggested that I should dip it. It will be staying with it's skin intact, there seems to be a demand for blast white old coins.

new collectors love blast white!! and then they all eventually turn one way or another

only makes the eye appealling thick skinned original coins even better

I find that dime original but not particularly attractive. Nor unattractive, per se- it has its charms. But the spots are distracting to me and make it look like it has mildew. If it weren't for the distracting spots it would be handsome. I would have to restrain myself from dipping or "curating" it and would probably send it to NCS.

    I do like that '39-O dime. Very much. It's a CircCam™. image

While I agree with you dismeguy there are a whole lot of other folks who don't agree with us. If they can potentially make that coin into a 66 by dipping, it's fate is sealed. I had a wonderfully toned rarer date seated quarter that was in the condition census for the date.
The coin would likely never make it to MS65 grade. But the guy that bought it immediately dipped it hoping for an upgrade and ruined one of the few nicely toned specimens of the date in existence. I've seen a number of uncs of this date and none had the eye appeal or color of this one (not the 2 MS65's nor the MS66 that were finer).

I passed on an exceptionally clean MS67 NGC seated quarter today only because it was too blast white. I'm sure it will fit into someone's set down the road.

I like white pickups. Lots of people like red or blue ones. Until someone buys them for us, we each get to choose what suits us.
    When in doubt, don't.

The 59 doesn't appeal to me enough to purchase, the 39 does. Blast white seated dimes really don't appeal to me much either. Here is a toned one with a cud and nice die clash.

Love the original looks on those dimes.

Not many like them around I'd wager.

So many coins are being messed with. I understand that people have different taste.
I just wish folks would pass a coin on, as is. and find something that they like as it is.

I bought the 39-O above years ago, when I was building a set of Seated dimes.
It was a tough coin to find and I would guess it still is today.

I knew it had problems, but after years of looking I gave up and went with it.
It seemed that everything I found had been messed with. Someone just had to try to improve them.
