Took a brief stop to say hello to various dealers and collectors (I was not setting up this weekend)

Must say that the hotel was packed....all tables are sold out and there was quite a bit of activity........some new dealers set up this time around and something for everyone.....if you are looking to kill a few hours the show will be running thru Sun and I would say would be worth the trip..... Larry Gentile will be holding a YN program Sat at Noon if you have any little ones....

Even picked up a 1894 pcgs VF25 morgan that was way too nice to pass up.... certainly above average for the grade and guess with the recent weakness in the higher end Morgans a good deal....

The show is at the Rye Town Hilton which is off I 287.... suggest you google Rye Town Hilton for directions and once you come off the highway there are Stamp / Coin Show signs that direct you to hotel as well....

I was hoping to score with some "old meat" but no luck. Nothing really felt right and I passed on all the material. I got the impression there was not a lot of buying going on. To me, the overall quality from last year's show seemed down a notch. The aisles are tight and there is more bumping going on with this show than most others. There were plenty of Morgans. If you love Morgans, this show is for you. Gold in MS64 and higher grades was in short supply. Very few MS64 Liberty and Indian gold pieces. Considering that gold touched $640 briefly today, I thought there would be more out there.

I did spy a wonderful PCGS MS65 1907 $10 Indian which was very high end for the grade. It was priced over "ask" so not much I was willing to do on that. That was the nicest gold/silver type coin for the grade that I saw on the floor. A couple of bust halves in MS63-65 were a tad too rubbed for my taste. Another dealer had what appeared to be a nice and orig 1864 NGC PF65 Cam seated half, but the holder was so scuffed up it was not really worth the risk to me even at CDN "bid." It did have the appearances of being a fairly nice coin.

I ran into Oreville and a friend and we had a nice time chatting for a while. Oreville has a good command of many US coin series. Today he was helping a new collector get his feet wet, without getting them singed. Nearly all of us have missing "toes" from our early exploits.

Contrary to the pre-show reports, Dart Coin was there with his usual large inventory. I spent some time with both Brian Hendleson and Joe Brattole (JBC Coin). They had their usual nice selection of higher powered coins.

Nice seeing you, Scarsdale Coins, again.

My two friends came down with me and one of them is an experienced coin collector in the hobby and the other, a new coin collector.

We met with roadrunner who proceeded to show n' tell us his lovely coins. I really liked his Connecticut commemorative as well as his 19th century halves.

I even convinced my friend to buy from roadrunner a complete short set of walking liberty halves 1941PDS through 1947PD, all in the PCGS graded MS-63 rattler holders. Very nicely matched although at least 1/3 of them looks like MS-64's. What a nice transaction!

Roadrunner is indeed an astute collector which has always been quite apparent at this site. Although we have chatted for at least 4 years, we never met until now. My friend and I were not disappointed at all. He was thrilled with his purchase!

Oreville, I was pleased that a starting collector ended up with that set. Just the novelty of the rattlers made it a very odd commodity these days. As you mentioned, it's one of the few times with a very common set where the set is worth more than the sum of the parts.

I'm glad you liked the Connecticut in MS66. I've only owned it a week. I only showed coins to one dealer and left it at that.
The buying spirit did not appear to be strong on this day. Better days should be ahead at the FUN show.

I remember the story that Bruce Amspacher told in the late 1980's of being commissioned to put together a gem set of slabbed Roosy dimes. At that time there essentially none to be had.
This had to be done by scratch. In the end he figured it cost him something like $5000 in time, effort and slabbing to contruct that set.
The actual coins were worth a fraction of the inputted price.

talk about show turnaround..... what started Friday as a very active show.......went 360 today...... show was still busy but not as active.....seems like better date gold was in demand.....most dealers really not buying much, but I must say I had a good day walking the floor and selling...also had a nice chance to speak to the YN's druing their noon to 3pm program and that room was packed with about 20 or so very smart young folks.......hmmm

with so many shows coming up in the next week hard to say which way to go.... a lot of folks will be heading up to Beantown for bay state and of course the 1st of the month in Pars NJ will also be next Sun.... Yes my appologies regarding DART they are at the show set up with lots of items.....
