Just out of curiosity why does the mint

(This goes along with my recent post on Fulfillment centers)......

Why does the mint make coins in Philly or Denver or West Point and ship them from Memphis?

Seems it would save us all (as taxpayers as well) a ton of money to ship from the production facility.

I imagine they only make coins in said places and the coins and packaging meets in Memphis.

Anybody can shed some light on this???? Where do all the velvet boxes and plastic holders get made? Memphis?

I would imagine they lack the resources (space, manpower, security) to package and ship individual orders at the West Point facility.
  • They probably do it in part because the fedex HQ/hub is in memphis. Since they ship by FedEx on the expedited stuff, it's all going to memphis for sorting anyways.

I'd say they outsource shipping to save money.
