Sorry for my ignorance, but what is wrong with this auction?

    DG

The First Day Issue cards from that year had a little silver stamp that said First day issue on it - and I believe they were also numbered on the back - #/x e.g.

I can't find any examples - I had an SC FB Emmitt Smith first day numbered I believe - but don't know where it is?

  • No numbers on the back (ie. serial numbers), only the holographic box on the front for the 1993 and 1994 Stadium Club FDIs. 1995 used gold stamping.

Unfortunately, I think that the seller is serious. Kind of like the people that sell Topps cards with the facsimile autographs as really signed. "1953 Topps autograph! Signed on the back in red ink!"

    Thanx Brum

I have some buried somewhere. The first days are limited tho - I think around 2000?

I don't know what year it was - but I want to say that one year in FB, the cards are numbered on the back.

Were there any 1st day issues for 1991 Topps Stadium Club?

How did one get 1st day issues? Did they come randomly inserted in the foil packs?

  • The first year for the First Day Issue cards were 1993, they were inserted at about one per box which was a big deal back then. The stated print runs for 1993 and 1994 were 2000 of each card. 1998 was the first year that the First Day cards were serial numbered on the back.

Edited to add that I am talking about the baseball Stadium Club sets, I am not so sure on the specifics on the other sports. I am pretty certain that the concept was first introduced with the 1993 baseball set and subsequently was applied to the other 1993 Stadium Club issues in the other three sports.

The Emmitt I had/have? Has to be later than 1997 since I purchased it in San Antonio.

And since Topps tends to be consistent with their promotions, I would say it's also like a 1998 or newer card.

    Thanx for the info

  • Stadium First Day Issue (or First Day Production) cards began to be inserted into packs at the rate of around one per box in 1993 There are extimated to be around 2000 each in existence. At the time those cards fetched hefty prices. I remember seeing the Griffey card selling for $150. In most cases even the big names can be obtained for under $20 these days if you can find them being offered. Perhaps there are a few collectors looking for a PSA 10 set and those may go for significantly higher prices. The nice looking silver "refractor-like" foil stamp was replaced by a cheap gold foil stamp that was barely distinguishable from the base card in 1995 and the insert's popularity declined significantly. I believe in 1996 TSC changed the name to "One-of-a-Kind" despite being numbered out of something like 125. The First Day label was brought back in 97 or 98 and those had serial numbers.

The card is question from the original post is clearly NOT a First Day Issue card. There is no silver stamp on the card.

I've heard that those First Day Issue logos could be "transfered" from commons to key players cards; how is that possible? I just don't see how you could do that and still make it look convincing. After all, suppose a complete set was to come along; how would you know none of the cards have transfered logos?

I did the Series 1 First Day Issue basketball set back in 93/94. At the time the Shaq and Jordan were about $150 or more. I got the Shaq in a pack. Boxes were easily searched. The First Day Issue, Beam Team and Super Team cards were always in consecutive packs. I think I still have the set here somewhere unless it was stolen when some of my other cards and sets were.
