Check out this Washington Quarter!

Got this one about a month ago, it's fast becoming one of my favorites. It's so gorgeous! Currently in a PCGS MS66 holder. If eye appeal were truly the most significant factor, this would be an MS67 hands down. It's not bad from a technical standpoint, either. Enjoy, and Happy Thanksgiving!

    Definitely a nice example of a 50S.

The reverse is a 67+ and Unfortuantely for you the obverse is the detraction on grade with its two or three tic marks
lowering its OVERALL grade. But I love this coin as you ... With the lustre this coin portays I would almoist attempt an
upgrade and Might squeek a 67 ... but a nice overall example of the date and mm

The standards for a 67 are pretty rediculous, IMHO. If a Washington must be perfect for a 67, what is needed for a 68, 69, or 70? The whole scale is not being used for these coins, and it's a shame because there's a pretty wide variation between 66's, and this one is definitely near the top.

The 1950-S and 1951-S are the best two dates for luster within the silver series. This coin might be held back because there appear to be two regions of roll rub on the leading ridge of the upper hairline and around the eye socket.

  • gorgeous.... it should be a 67
  • Thanks guys for the comments. I can't agree more regarding the grading standards for a 67. I've seen and owned a bunch of MS66's. The coin doesn't have any major marks whatsoever and nothing that distracts, for certain. The very light lines on the coin I didn't notice even when louping the coin...it wasn't until I took digital photos at 5x magnification that I even realized they were there! Also let me say this coin CANNOT take a bad picture, which to me is another indication of what a high quality coin this is.

I have my renewal voucher from PCGS and am tempted to submit for regrade, but this is actually one of the dates that doesn't have many 67's at all, only 45 as of now, so I'm wondering if I'd even have a chance. I guess that could work in my favor since the date isn't known for having that many high quality pieces and this one stands out. Of the 502 that made MS66, I'd like to see one that looks better! Enjoy the holiday everyone. -Mike
