We have NOTHING on the wine collectors

My favorite part of browsing Mastro catalogues is the flowery prose. There have been many posts about this in the past. Earlier tonight I was browsing Sotheby's, and decided to check out their catalog for an upcoming Wine auction. This is one of the lot descriptions:

"Exquisite scent, violets and coffee. So lively of bouquet,
with leather, raspberries and cinnamon. Formidable,
irony, minerally taste. Tarry centre. The fruit is not so
pronounced as in 1986 - the tannins are drier.
Blackberry flavour at the end.
Another recent bottle was so minty and young, thick and
mouth-coating - at the start of its life. When last tasted
from magnum, the nose was intensely blackcurrant and
it was so cassis on the palate, with a long, persistent
and powerful finish. When last tasted from Jeroboam, it
was pure ‘essence of cassis’, so sweet, soft and velvety.
So much for bigger formats providing more power, but
there are many other factors at work in a wine. For the
record, the last bottle at home was massive, chunky and
meaty - sit on it a bit longer."
No such details will spoil my plans...

That's hysterical. Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of the movie "Sideways".

pore me a bottle of 2 buck chuck and I'm there...

    I can't tell the difference between a $6 bottle and a $6K bottle....

As long as it's not to oaky...I could care...

2 days in Sonoma was a waste on this guy!!! lol

This one takes the cake. Even better than the 1914 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb a year or so ago.

Is this for a bottle of Vintage 1973 Boones Farm Strawberry Hill?

Then again: take a look at the latest Memory Lane auction catalog. Check out those descriptions. It reads like a carnival brochure! Like Don West hyping their lots!

We could use some good writing to help elevate our standing among other collectors, don'tcha think?
