Coin Storage

Hi, Everyone.

I'm amassing a collection that's valuable enough to me to want to protect it from theft, but I'm unsure as to what to do to protect them. I've thought of a safety deposit box, but I really don't want to go somewhere else to enjoy my coins. What I'd like to do is to get a safe, but I live in an apartment, so I can't bolt the safe down to the floor. I guess what I'd like is a storage space heavy enough so someone can't walk out with it, but that's accessible enough for me to admire my coins when I want to. Anyone have any suggestions?
If you haven't noticed, I'm single and miserable and I've got four albums of bitching about it that I would offer as proof.

Get a small Brink's safe. They have safes from very small to huge and are excellent quality.

suck it up and get a safe deposit box. Nothing beats it, especially for apartment dwellers.
  • I would suggest renter's insurance first...take pictures of eveything that you have. Then, buy a safe...something like this one...http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3266150
Lock it up and bury it under clothes or something that might not get noticed if someone did break in when you are gone. For smaller collections, these are great...and you can look at the coins as often as you like...but make sure you get the renters insurance...there are lots of companies that will insure coins. Good luck.

Sorry to say but if your dealing with a big $$ amount a SDB is the way to go. I felt the same way until I got mine but the peace of mind is worth the risk. IMHO

Excellent idea! Furthermore, absence makes the heart grow fonder! I left part of my collection in a safe deposit box on the opposite side of the country and when I finally was able to view it 12 years later, it was a fantastic experience!!! And everything looked exactly the way I left it.............no tarnish, no spots, etc.imageimage
Enjoy each day as though it was your last.
