Even if you don't plan on bidding for this Modern Classic of the breakfast table - you just gotta love seeing them sell on the 'bay.

Any guesses on the winning bid?

I wish the picture was more clear. All you can see is glare. For that much dough it would be nice to actually see the coins.

Maybe he needs the money to buy a new camera?

Yeah, if I'm laying down nearly five grand, I want to see clear pictures.

Besides, that's not the "holy grail" for Sackie lovers. The 2000-W is.

Actually the blurry pic is almost a good thing. If the opening bid was $500 I'd bid on it and probably win! But at $4850.00 - wouldn't touch it with a 50 ft pole.

Now you're talking...but who do you have to be to get one of those gold(en) gems?

I can't tell if the slab has "Cheerios" on it or not. What is supposed to be on the slab for this coin?

You can have it slabbed as "Cheerios" if you ask, otherwise it comes with a Pattern designation

Thank you for this information. Now, can anyone see what the slab says in this auction?

The Cheerios dollar is of more interest to me than the 2000-W.

I agree, a different design vs. a mint mark change.

Doesn't the fact that it's gold count for anything?

And that there's only 12 of them in the world?

And that they were previously out of this world?

I recognize the name as one of the people bidding when three or four of these showed up about a year ago.

What I like about the cheerios sacs is that they were released to the public. I consider them circulation strikes whereas the Ws are more "numismatic items" rather than coins, IMHO.
  • Tried to enlarge and enhance the labels. Not much help. The photo's too bad.

I got a feeling this one will close with no bids!

    That's a tough question.

I e-mailed the seller yesterday...maybe some effect. There are now decent pictures of the dollar. It's attributed to "2000-P Pattern" not cheerios, which is fine. It's the one of two of the lowest graded coins that NGC has graded in this type.

Take my advice, and always claim it is the former not the latter.

Your wife won't kill you if if you like some one because they remind you of her. But if she thinks the only reason you love her is because she looks like someone else you are in trouble.

Thanks, Renman! A big improvement in the pictures.

Maybe the pictures were not posted when you wrote this. The slab clearly says 2000 P Pattern $1 MS66.

He added more pictures. When first posted there was only the blurry one with the green background.

Dang. The guy put up better pics and still no bids with 1 day 19 hours to go. Is there a market for these? Would people rather put their $ into Reverse Proof Gold? Give me a nice 1798 Silver Dollar any day. image

    Can't hardly believe it.

I was starting to think I'd offer the guy $500 for the thing. No such luck. image

    Bid History

Well all I can say is this, some sellers are smart enough to set the bar high. This coin sold for its' opening bid of $4850.00, but there was only one bidder.

If the opening bid was lower then there might have been bidder competition that would have pushed the final bid much higher than the opening bid.

We'll never know. I'm sure the seller is relieved to get the one bidder.

I suspect that a coin in the cheerios package would do better than a certified coin tied for worst known.

I found this entire auction to be of a cloudy nature...everything may be on the up & up but I still question these points.

1.) Vibroturk, the seller, has only purchased items (102 noted transactions) and this item is his/her first "for sale" item.

2.) It was wise of seller to start bid @ $4850.00, but his/her only bidder 12donc has (0) feedback. That's zero buys/sells and is going to plop down $5K on first e-bay transaction (could happen)

    3.) No insurance offered

    4.) No PayPal

note: if you have no bidders and you use a shill bid, is it still a shill bid situation if there is no other bid on top of the shill bid? Now I have a headache.

Lakesammman: A Sacagawea still in the Cheerios pack cannot be conclusively identified as the pattern coin, you need to see the tail feathers to confirm. There is a small rise on the shoulder near the date but the reverse is the "tell tail" point!
