I DID IT!! I DID IT!! I finally got all twelve of the 1994 Fleer insert sets! Yay! Yippie skippie!

Well, my 1994 Fleer Tim Salmon insert set arrived in the mail today so now I own all twelve 1994 Fleer insert sets! As you may already know, I have fond memories of buying these packs back in 1994 (I was 14 at the time) and I loved how you got an insert in every pack and it was fun seeing which one you get and hoping and praying I would hit the jackpot (which at the time, besides the Salmon autographs, was the 1994 Fleer Nolan Ryan Smoke 'N Heat, $50 at that time). But now, 12 years later, I took full advantage of the current buyer's market and now I own them all! I guess now all I need is the regular 1994 Fleer set along with the All-Rookie Team Exchange card and I'll have a true master set! So far only my 1992 Ultra master set is truely complete.

Now all that's left is to get all those 1992 Fleer inserts from one of my friends (he only lacks the Smoke 'N Heat set) and to start on the 1993 Fleer and Ultra master sets. Hopefully 5STAT can help make that happen. image

At long last, here's the scans for all 216 1994 Fleer insert cards (not counting the Salmon autos or the All-Rookie Team Exchange card; I do really want that exchange card though if any still exist):

1994 Fleer Inserts in slideshow format

Please forgive the fact that these are relatively low quality scans (you can see the full sized picture if you click on "View Different Sizes"). But hopefully not bad for a first attempt with our new scanner. image

I know this isn't exactly the most glamorous project in the hobby, but those insert set designs from those years were quite interesting and it is quite a challenging (in terms of finding the sets) project. image

    Good going.image

I actually like those inserts as well and will over time pick some of those sets up as well.

My favorites of the 1994 set are the All-Stars and the Team Leaders.

I'll be happy to post some scans of those inserts if you all would like! I know this isn't exactly the most glamorous project in the hobby, but those insert set designs from those years were quite interesting and it is quite a challenging (in terms of finding the sets) project. image >>

Let's see 'em! I have some Will Clark cards from some of these inserts, and they really are nice.

I always thought the base 1994 Fleer set was an especially nice design, and some individual cards were really sweet. I haven't looked at them in a while, but the Ryne Sandberg stands out in my mind as a classic image.

Indeed, I have one individual who has the 1993 Fleer, 1994 Fleer, and 1994 Ultra sets, but he just posted them on Ebay (I guess he couldn't wait) since I can't get them right now because we don't have the funds right now. image But I guess it's not like getting the regular sets is that hard. Getting all the insert sets is the real challenge, right? image

At long last, I finally was able to put up pictures (at the first message of this thread for convienence) of the cards. Not the highest quality scans mind you, but hopefully not bad for a first try with a scanner. Enjoy! image

    Did you ever get any?

You guys want me to scan my 1994 Ultra insert sets (I have them all except the four all-foil insert sets that were seeded one per carton) and my 1992 Ultra insert sets as well? I'm hoping to buy the 1992 Fleer insert sets (my friend Dick Robinson has them all except Smoke 'N Heat) for Christmas as well. Then all that'll be left is 1993 Fleer and 1993 Ultra. Perhaps I should go for 1993-95 Flair as well?

    Congratulations Estil

My best memory of chasing Fleer was in 1992.

My son and I would drive 90 miles to Ft. Stewart, Ga., because no one wanted the cello packs and they were at retail price - all the shops were selling them 2 to 4X the retail.

The Rookie Sensations were so hot! And here's a mail-in promo sheet that we got - it's numbered to 250,000! Not exactly rare.

    image

While the Rookie Sensations were exclusive to cello, the Team Leaders were exclusive to the rack packs.
The basketball was always more popular.

If you need a rack pack - let me know.

Also, either in 93 or 94, Jockey shorts included a parallel base brand card with their logo on it - these were much more limited and very popular. I wished I had bought one pack with the card in it - but just never got around to it.

  • Was it '92 Fleer that had the black All-Star inserts? I believe they weren't limited to a particular form of unopened material but I think they were inserted one per rack or cello. I remember finding a box of the stuff at a wholesale club as a kid and ripping the whole thing.

Out of the 24 All-Star cards I only got two different players, Palmeiro and Jack McDowell. Something like 14 Palmeiros and 10 McDowells. image

I don't know about the All-star cards Arthur but the only two cards that were highlighted - were the Team Leaders or Roger Clemens cards.

    image

And sometimes you could see which one it was - the team leader was green and the Clemens I recollect was black border?

Yes, the package my friend Dick has for me does indeed include the whole set of 1992 Fleer Rookie Sensations; and yes I do remember that they were THE insert set to have at that time and he pointed out to me that while it books for $50 now, it at one time went for $200. He has all the 1992 Fleer insert sets for me except for Smoke 'N Heat, which was only available in Christmas factory sets.

And that is a great looking ad; can anyone here scan the two page 1994 Fleer and 1994 Ultra (both series) ads? They should be in the early-to-mid 1994 Becketts if anyone still has those; thanks! image
