150th Anniversary of the 1 Dollar Bill

The first US $1 bill was issued in 1862. This means the 150th anniversary will be 2012. I know it's funny to have a coin commemorating a bill, but if the rag buck is still around, should the US Mint make a commemorative coin?

They can even put a green enameld dollar sign on it.

<< <i>No, but it might be interesting if the BEP made a commemorative note if it is still around. (And it probably will be.) How about the original design but with the current series date and signatures? Wouldn't THAT turn heads! (Maybe we would get some more interest in some artistic engraving on the currency.) >>

Yep, I see the lock icon, so it's on.

Thanks for mentioning that. I didn't know what the lock meant until just now.
<< <i>If they do kill it, they should at least let it live to it's sesquicentennial

I don't plan on it. It is a somewhat sensible suggestion that could be money maker for the government so naturally they wouldn't listen to it.
