What items are you looking for?

Realistically, of course...I mean we all would love a Babe Ruth signed ball, but I am thinking items you've been looking for that you just can't find.

Me, personally, have the following list:

-full graded ticket from the Bucs super bowl win over the raiders
-full graded ticket from Wade Boggs' 3000th hit game
-full graded ticket from Ken Griffey, Jr.s 500th HR game
-Wade Boggs autographed baseball
-Griffey Jr. auto baseball
-Ichiro autograph on 2 game tickets I own.

Anyone else have elusive items they just can't seem to track down, or have some suggestions where to get mine?

I should have clarified..I am looking for PSA/DNA certified autos.
  • 1982 Topps Baseball card #567, I need one of these that will grade PSA 9 to finish my registry set.
This card has been tough for me to find in high grade. I have a few raw copies that might bring an 8 but no 9/10 material.

Full (graded would be nice) ticket of Roger Clemens' first ML game. Now that would be rare since it was a full year and a half before anyone started really noticing this young righthander.

A decently centered 1964 Topps Don Larsen (#513) in ex-mt (or better) condition. Most of the ones that show up on Ebay are really OC, really beat up, or both.

I am looking for a very cheap item, but I have yet to find it. A 1964 Topps/Bazooka Carl Willey stamp. I believe it is the last "card" I need to complete my collection of his.

If anyone comes across a raw copy of it, PLEASE let me know. image

Are there any known Chicle packs? I've seen a couple Sport Kings packs but never heard of a Chicle.

Also, can you explain the "different backs" on Chicles?

Memory Lane has a PSA 7 tosi in their current auction. Link

Thanks for the link, Joe. That's a great looking Tosi. That's pretty high end for me, but I'll keep my eye on it.

I have also never seen an unopened Chicle pack, but I was talking with a collector that said he had one. He wanted what I thought was WAY too much for it, so I never even asked to see a scan. It would probably have to be slabbed for me to go after it anyway...

Regarding the different Chicle backs, I know of 4 different backs for the set. The differences are minor, but there were definitely different backs printed, and I'm not sure of the relative rarity of each. Here's a description:
Back #1: Eddie Casey's signature is centered, with his credentials below
Back #2: Eddie Casey's signature is near the right side, with his credentials below
Back #3: Eddie Casey's signature is near the right side, and his credentials are not printed
Back #4: Same as back #2, but the copyright line is missing from the bottom of the card.

Some of the backs may be out of necessity, because some bios are longer than others. I don't know the reason for the backs otherwise.

All of the high # cards in the set only have back #1. Of the other 24 cards in the set, each card seems to have been printed with 2 of the 4 different backs. Card #1 through #12 all have backs #1 and #2, and no other backs. All cards but #13 and #21 seem to have back #1, and cards #13 and #21 are the only two cards that have back #3. The other cards #13 through #24 have back #1 and either back #2 or #4.

These data are given a relatively large sample size of Chicles (approximately 300). I have heard that another back variation exists, but I have not seen it. Also, some cards may have more than 2 backs, but I have not yet seen one.

Also, the "green text" reprints seem to have some different backs, but I have not tracked these down.

If anyone has more information regarding the different backs, please let me know.

Very interesting, Doug. I'm just getting starting on the Chicles myself, and I'm a sucker for variations.

Inserts and test issues from the 50', 60's, and 70's of Cardinals at the right price. I have many, but still need a few -

    1971 Greatest Moments Brock; McCarver

    1974 Deckle Edge Gibson; Simmons

    1955/56 Hocus Focus (any Cardinals)

    1956 Topps Pins (any Cardinals)

    1962 Jello (any Cardinals)

Some, I know I will never be able to afford like the 1968 Topps 3D Curt Flood; 1967 Topps Stand Up (Heads Up) Cepeda and McCarver; 1967 Topps Punchout Cepeda; 1968 Topps Plaks Checklist (Cepeda, I think); 1968 Topps Action All Star Stickers; 1969 Topps 4 in 1; 1970 Topps Candy Lids Richie Allen; 1973 Topps Comics Joe Torre; etc.

1985-86 Vachon sticker of Patrick Roy. I've wanted this for close to 15 years and have never even seen a color image of it.
  • Good luck on the Chicles, Joe. It's been a great set for me.

It seems like now is a great time to be buying them, at least in PSA 6 or lower. The PSA 7's and higher are still commanding big $, but the lower grades prices seem low right now.
