He has put nothing but stock photos in most of his auctions........No paypal for this item either.....

even tho it says I accept PayPal, I do not for this item. It would not let me take it off the auction!"

DO NOT BUY from sellers who talk like that, unless you want problems.

by bad sellers. The pool of participating buyers is now smaller than I have
    ever seen it.

The interesting thing I have seen over the past month is that traffic on
free-standing websites is way up over last year at this time. That can
only mean that folks still want to shop online, but they have become
more afraid to play on EBAY.

The drought on EBAY is category specific, to some degree. That means
that sellers with multiple stores in distinct categories will be able to
ride out the depression in some collectible categories.

I am also getting reports from sellers that niche stores are doing best.
Even guys that were doing stamps and coins in a single store are
having much better luck with two stores - one for coins and one for
    stamps.

The post-entry model that 4SC introduced a couple of years ago may
turn out to be they way to go. Each sport in a different store.

It will be interesting to see what happens to prices after the holidays.
It will also be fun to see how many stores are left, after December.

  • total BS, don't do it. He won't take Paypal and 97% is really low.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Storm - I agree with you about ebay sales. There are definitely fewer buyers on ebay than last year. I was on the ebay stores message board and they confirm that the visits to their stores are declining. Some of the decline could be the way they changes the listings for stores, but someone mentioned that visits to ebay overall are down 40% for the year. I guess that explains the fee hikes and some of the process changes (ie making it harder to catch a shill).

Ebay may have reached a point where they have to squeeze more out of fewer customers.

"Interesting...so sellers...have you noted decreased sales overall??"

    ////////////////////////////////////////////////

"Overall" is the relevant part. In my case, "No."

Lame categories are being more than made up for by good categories.

But, folks who only have one category - even if they have lots of
sub-categories - are still at risk of being in the "decreased-sales
    overall" pond.

If the declines within certain categories are cyclical, and not a
result of EBAYphobia, those categories will recover; but, if the
suffering categories are all a seller has, any recovery will likely
    come too late.

In card categories, 98% of what I sell is for new and start-up
collectors. If newbies get turned off, my card biz goes into the
toilet. In other categories, I sell stuff to very advanced collectors
and investors, and that biz does not appear to have been hit
by any defect other than an over-bought/over-priced market.

Diversified sellers that I talk to say that "overall" sales are
increasing and NOT decreasing. But, some guys/gals with
single-category inventories are dying; either from a natural
cycle of demand, or from too many buyers having been hurt ---
and I admit that I do not know for sure which of those factors
    is the greater cause.

I do know that alot of folks who have never shopped on EBAY
have heard stories from their friends, and have decided not
to "EVER" buy anything on EBAY. That is not a good thing for
    any seller in any category.

actually quite the opposite!! My store has been busy even when I don't have auctions up....even to the point that it's hard to keep inventory in there.

What I've seen is repeat customers coming back and saying "hey, the cards you sold me were great...do you happen to have any XXXXX?"
and the business has just grown from there...

My total sales are up over $3066 from last year from Ocotber 1st through today. There's just not enough time to do everything....and I'm NOT complaining!! image

forgot to add....IF you have to ask about the validity of a card or seller.....stay away!!!
