Question about Troy Smith

I'll be the first to admit that i am not a huge college football fan, primarily because i seemed to always work saturdays.

It sounds like Troy Smith is going to win the heisman this year.

How comparible is he to Vince Young ?

Is he a better runner, pocket passer ?

Will he be a high pick and do you think he will have a better career than Vince ?

  • He is a better passer for sure, and prob better runner, VY is fast but not blazing fast... VY had more swagger though.

Smith is a late first round or early second round NFL draft projection at the moment. I've even seen 3rd round bandied about. What round did Young go in? The knock on Smith besides his height is the hitch in his throwing mechanics giving him a slow release.

    Young was drafted 3rd overall(Titans).

If i were a gm with a later first round pick(20-32) and Smith was still on the board, I'd give serious thought of drafting him. He's got the arm strength, accuracy, qb "IQ" in the pocket, wheels, and he's proven in big games that he can handle it. My own knock on him, is his lack of ball control while escaping pressure in the pocket. A little to Aarron Brooks/Kerry Collins like for myself in that way.

  • for some reason i see the raiders taking smith, can't you all see it? The raiders like "athletes"

BTW that intresting stat that ABC showed about him not throwing a int in big games( he ended up throwing one today on a tip ball) he has like 14 tds to 1 int ratio in the "big" games. I think he will go high due to his talent. Prob 2nd QB taken behind quinn who will be a bust.

I think he is quicker than Young, but no faster. Young looks A LOT slower than he is, for his size he is not in the same vein of running QB as say a Michael Vick, or Troy Smith. I believe both are equally talented as passers, beautiful long bombs and superb touch passes when it's called for. I don't know why, but it's being said he(T Smith) might not even be drafted in the first round. Which sounds obsurd to me, but hey what do I know right? I really think his career will depend on who drafts him, I can see the following teams picking him up; KC, Oakland, Detroit. I'm hoping Detroit as I don't see Kitna being the answer, and McCown not being given the chance to shine.

  • Better than Vince in the pros? Depends on what team drafts him IMO. Vince hasn't done anything yet so it's way too difficult to say anywho. High pick? Probably not higher than 20th, I would guess the second round though. It will partially depend on how many players leave early too. In the end, I think he's a super college QB but I don't feel he will be very good in the NFL. QB's like him just don't generally succeed at that level.
