Best/cheapest way to put together sets?

I'm looking to put together a run of topps sets from 1970 to 1980 in crease-free EX+ condition, what do you think is the cheapest way to do it? The late 70's sets i'll probably just purchase whole, but what about the '70-'75 sets? Is it cheaper to piece them together through large lots on ebay or do the complete sets generally sell for cheap? Anyone have any experience with this?

I would imagine it will be cheaper to by whole sets in the grades you are seeking for all of the 1970's. Shipping prices are the problem on set building - and seem to be the same whether buying high or mid-grade cards. Proportionally they will be a killer in putting together sets.

  • I agree with Bosox. I'm attempting the same thing myself and after a little research I found that buying the full sets on ebay can be done rather affordably.
  • the best way to do it is to buy several complete sets. That way you should be able to come up w/ an EX+ set. Then sell the other sets off.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
