Home Buy, Sell, & Trade - U.S. Coins

Interesting find, but now need some help...

I went to a coin show recently where I bought a cheap lot of silver, old tokens, etc.

When I went through the stuff last night, I found what I believe to be an 1847 Hawaiian Cent!

Now the problem... It is silver colored with the copper leaching out from under this "coating"

Could it be paint, or what it electroplated to look like silver? Could it just be a fake coin?

I will try to post a pic, but how should I clean it if is is real?

Appreciate the help, as always

Good luck with the coin. I do not know anything about those, but I assume, based on your thread, that it would be a great find if it is what you think it is. As for cleaning, I don't know if acetone would work or not. I have not experience in that area, other than getting tape residue/pvc off a few coins.

If it is paint acetone should work. If it is electro plated your up the creek pretty well.
