A-Rod
Thomas
Delgado
Pujols
Guerrero
Andruw Jones
Sheffield - maybe
I think Juan Gonzalez is only a couple of good years away.
No one else comes to mind with enough time to be considered a cantidate yet.
And of course Alex Gordon will make it.

<< <i>And the only active players already there are Griffey and Bonds - is that true? >>
yes, next on the list of active players is Frank Thomas with 487
500 is STILL a great benchmark for Non juicers in my humble opinion.

I will laugh now, but hope that you are wrong.
I do not, however, think that Sheffield will make it. Nor Bagwell.
I was just looking at some of the this year's homerun leaders and their ages.
Guys like Beltran, Berkman, Ortiz, Soriano are all pushing 30 years old or are already past 30 years old, and (get this) none of these guys are even half way to 500. That is pretty incredible. Also, Albert Pujols is only 26, and already has 250. That's pretty incredible. Adam Dunn just turned 27 and has 198.

<< <i>I think you might could add Adam Dunn to the list.

Hate to break the news to you but Pujols very well could be 30 or older
If he is 26 (and there are a bunch of reason to indicate that he is) - God help the rest of the league!
Shane
<< <i>Ok, just for arguement's sake, let's say he is 30. If he keeps up his pace, he will be at 500 by the time he is 36.

Don't get me wrong, the man is an absolute beast. Wish he was playing with any team other than one in the NL Central.
Having said that, he's older than 26 regardless of what reasons indicate otherwise. Believe what you want but I can assure you he's not...
What makes you think so?
Shane
<< <i>He has been in the United States since he was 16. If someone is 20 or 21, why would someone want to lie about being just 16. Doesn't make sense. Now, if someone were 26 or 27, I could see him lying about being 20 or 21. >>
He came to America to play baseball. If you see a 21 year old like him, or a 16 year old like him as a scout who would have more potential? Exactly.

While it doesn't always happen, it is common for players from the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, South America, etc lie about their age to get an upper hand. As topps said above, a scout would rather have a 16-year old prospect than a 21-year old. They fudge their birth certificate and it's really no big deal; no blood, no foul.
This has been going on for years. Fernando Valenzuela, Julio Franco (allegedly), and Mim-something (terrible hangover is preventing me from remembering at this time) are good examples and represent just a small fraction.
<< <i> Julio Franco (allegedly) >>
Good Lord. If that's the case with Julio Franco, then he must be close to 60 by now. I doubt he lied considering how long he's been playing.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger
He's listed at 48, so he very well could be in his early 50s.
<< <i>Yeah, I can't see any reason either. >>
I know that Alfonso Soraino, El Duque, and quite a few others were found to be older than they claimed. This was a couple of years back, but it's common knowledge that players from spanish speaking countries who come to play baseball in America "make" themselves younger to be more attractive prospects for scouts. Think, Danny Almonte.
