    Link

That is the key for the entire Republic (1910+) series. My 1993 Krause listed it at $375/U, 225/XF. I don't know what current book values are, but Portugal has indeed skyrocketed in value over the past 3-4 years. I can't say what actual market trends have been for this coin, but 8 people pushed the bidding over $200 rather quickly and 3 of those kept it over $1000. So, the price may be a bit high, but at least in this case there were quite a few determined bidders!

Is there a more recent way to keep track of prices than a book that's over 10 years old?

Yep, buying the new edition! image

(Krause's Standard Catalog of World Coins comes out with updated prices and more in yearly editions. I'm just stubborn and use my old book image )

KM571, 580,000 minted, copper-nickel, $500 F, $900 VF, $1,500 XF, $3,000 UNC. 2004 edition. My 2006 edition is in the other room, but that @#%* thing probably omits it. Or the entire type. Or the entire Portugal section. [/sarcasm]

Portugal is one of the few countries that I gave up finding in unc and started looking for XF/ AU.

Even a lot of the apparently easy coins continue to elude me.

Krause values usually lag behind actual prices for Portuguese coins.

I like them too. Here's one in NGC MS64 that I just picked up from NEN:

It commemorates the Battle of Ourique with a mintage of 200K.
Any other information about this coin would be greatly appreciated. image

The 2006 edition lists the same values as the 2004 edition. How come?

I'm surprised. (we are talking about 20th century, yes?)

There was a massive price increase in Krause for these some years back
so the market may just be catching up with it. Catalogs usually do a poor
job of reflecting current pricing and raise prices in fits and starts. There
was an increase for the 2007 edition.

There are some great additions to the thread.

I've stayed near, but never been over the Salazar bridge in Lisbon. Last month I stayed closer to the Vasco da Gama bridge.

Both are spectacular bridges to look at!

If I am not mistaken, MrEureka has a line on Portuguese material.
