Should the loser of the OSU/MICH. be considered for the title game ?

I don`t think this subject has been brought up yet,, on these boards.

I think under a close, hard fought game, it has to be considered who ever wins or loses.

The loser just becomes another 1 loss team,, BUT,, their 1 loss will have been to an undeafeted #1 nationally ranked team.

And for all the other 1 loss teams,, you have to look at who beat them.

Only Notre Dame can make a claim if its Mich. that wins. Then both Ohio st. & Notre Dame can say they were beat by the undeafeted #1 ranked team.

Then it will come down to who played the better game versus Mich.

I`m sure everyone agrees with me image

I dont think they should based on the soul fact no one would really want to see the same game over for the BCS title.

I assume the BCS wouldnt pair up Mich and OSU again. It does stink though becuase they probably deserve to be there.

Actually, Wisconsin could make that claim too, and Wisconsin would be the only one who could make the claim that they lost to the skunkbears in the Big Outhouse. ND and OSU would have lost to the skunkbears at home.
  • ddbird, a similar scnerio happened a few years ago Fla. & Fla. st. But i am not sure that was with the BCS ?

detroitfan2, your right, good catch. Its a shame they did not play Ohio st. this year,, and for that fact, i think it hurts them.

The playoffs start Saturday, eventually all the current top 8 teams are in it. The OSU vs MI, ND vs SC, Fl vs Ark and Rutgers vs West Virgin. It's time to put up or shut up. No one who loses a game here on out should be in the BCS championship game.
  • I'd love to see a rematch but doubt it will happen. It does not get any better than OSU-Michigan. Call me crazy but I'd like to see Rutgers get a shot if they can run the table. Beating the #3 team This late in the year should count for something. It will be OSU & USC in the BCS title game.

The OSU-Michigan should not be played anywhere other than Ann Arbor or Columbus... somethings like tradition are more important than a rematch in the Fiesta Bowl and all the BCS NONSENSE. End of discussion.

    Very True!
  • First off, as coinkat said, Michigan and Ohio State have two places in which they "should" play, traditions in my opinion, are very important and should never be touched!

I have a feeling this college football season is going to really spark more controversy than in the previous few years.

If Michigan wins big, then it is a no brainer who goes, and it only depends on how the other matchups fare.

If Michigan barely wins, since the game will be in Columbus, Ohio State should have no gripes as to being in the national championship or not!

If Michigan gets blown out, then they have no business playing in the national championship game.

If Michigan loses, but it is close, say an overtime loss, or perhaps by a field goal. Then like anyone else, they would have an argument that they too should be playing in a rematch!

Michigan crushed Notre Dame, and let's say Notre Dame wins out, chances are good they will be in the game, but how can they be ranked over Michigan, should Michigan barely lose to #1 at their house! Also, Notre Dame struggled against teams they should have easily beaten (UCLA and MSU), one team was easily handled by Michigan. Remember, Oklahoma went to the game after losing late in the season a few years ago, sure it was controversial, but they still did! I think people have to look at who loses late in the season, and to whom, before they say this or that team has a gripe or not! Florida barely beat South Carolina last week, and in their last 4 games, they are 3-1, and each win was by a touchdown or less, against 2 teams they should have easily handled! One of those teams was Vanderbilt, that Michigan beat by 20! I think USC will beat Notre Dame, ending Notre Dame's chances! I believe LSU will beat Arkansas, do not know why, I just feel as if they will! Not a knock whatsoever on Rutgers, but if they play a Michigan or Ohio State, they will get crushed, but they have to beat West Virginia first, another team that is overrated. West Virginia plays Louisville, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh, and I believe all three would lose to a top tier Big 10 team with a semi good defense!

There is ONLY one problem, unless things work out properly, you will never know if this or that team can beat this or that team, unless they play! So we can argue and gripe, say this or that, but everything is based on what a computer says. There has to be a playoff system of some kind, to officially say, the teams who play for the national championship, are the legit champs each year!

I could actually care less, since as far as I'm concerned the 'National Championship' is a complete fraud. If the BCS rankings are ever done without the imput of the polls, which IMO are utterly worthless, then I'll rethink the issue.

hardcorehockeyfan, you have a big flaw in your arguement in that it leaves out the team that might be playing the best football at the moment. Nothing is static about a college football team, its a group of 18-22 year olds primarily who either get better, worse or stay the same over the season. Injuries happen to teams as well as emotional issues. Coaches learn how to stop teams, etc. For example Arkansas didn't have a good QB, now they have two that have played well, teams develope and I rather doubt that they would get crushed if that game were replayed. You can't go by what happened 2 months ago. If Michigan loses, a team that goes undefeated and beats two top ten teams deserves a shot at OSU (Rutgers) before Michigan gets a 2nd chance. Like I said the playoffs are on, one loss and you are out of the tournament. Its the way college basketball is done and doesn't matter if you lose in triple overtime, you are out. Remember George Mason? BTW ND doesn't deserve to play in the BCS championship game nor will they.

I did mention something like this before........

Is a tie possible ??, after so many extra peroids in the weird NCAA overtime system, maybe the game can be called a tie,

That would set up a rematch possibility.

This aint no party,... this aint no disco,.. this aint no fooling around.
  • Don't count us out yet. Arkansas' Darren McFadden not only proved himself as one of the best running backs in College Football but also a very efficient quaterback. Marcus Monk our stand out wide reciever is getting stronger and according to coach he will be good to go again on Saturday. Payton Hillis is out due to a deep bruise on the hip but will be back for the LSU game. Felix Jones is one to contend with as well. So please do not count us out. Respect in the NCAA is earned I know. For a team that didn't have a "pot to piss in last year" looks like we may have a shot at something better. GO HOGS!!!!!!!!

Only if Bud Selig calls the game because both teams used up all their pitchers.

True enough, but the Razorbacks' strength of schedule is pitiful. And the drum job that USC put on them doesn't help their cause either.

  • Remeber that McFadden didn't play much as he was injured in the USC game, imagine if he was healthy. Were a young team and are only a few players on offense and defense this year. Watch us (NEXT YEAR).

    Rob...

I think Arkansas could play right with virtually anyone at this point.
  • Thanks bud, I know we could give anyone a game, I am just tired of Ark getting no recognition. I know your for OSU and they are a strong powerhouse! I just want to win the SEC title, then we will be happy.
