New Purchase: 1880-O PCGS MS-63 (2-Sided Toned) Morgan Dollar -- Post Your Thoughts

StuartStuart Posts: 9,831 ✭✭✭✭✭
I am really pleased to share with you this 2-sided toned 1880-O PCGS MS-63 Morgan Dollar purchased at auction from a fellow board member.
I have seldom seen toned 1880-O Morgans, and cannot remember seeing another 2-sided toner similar to this. image

I invite you to post your thoughts and comments about my new purchase.

Very nice and fitting for autumn.

I wonder how it was stored prior to being slabbed.

I agree it is rather unique being toned on both sides.
The strike and fields look pretty decent too.

She would be really something had she not taken those kisses on her cheek.

Outstanding coin Stuart !!!!! The 1880-O does not often come with color. Mine are both one-sided; one is an end-roller, the other is (I think) an album toner. Good choice !!

    Best,

I really like this one much more than the all-white look of the last one. Congrats on the NEWP & thanks for sharing...Mike

Rick, Sunnywood, JayBoxx & Mike: Thanks for the feedback on my new 1880-O 2-Sided Toned Morgan Dollar purchase.

Sunnywood: Thanks for sharing your toned coin expertise with me, and for confirming my observations that the 1880-O is not commonly found as a 2-Sided Toner.

I recently received the following coin, and took these new photos (Top) to compare with the original auction photos (Below). The new photos demonstrate that the coin has more reddish hues.

I really like it and it fits the season real well.

I don't think I can say enough about it.

I usually don't like toned morgans, but that one is really nice. How did it get toned on both sides?

PBFloyd: In reply to your question, although I don't know for sure, I assume that this 2-sided toner was probably kept in a brown paper kraft envelope (with ample sulfur content) for a while to achieve the pretty toning on both sides.
