Do any members here collect graded non-sports cards ?

I've been thinking of possibly starting a non-sports set on the registry

Anyone here have a set in the works ?

I personally like the 1911 Heroes of History/Men of History set . . I like the fronts and the backs are filled with info about the person . . Would most likely start in the PSA 4 range

This is actually a much more active forum, even though it's only a few weeks old. No Magic or Star Wars talk

4SC has had quantities from a few sets - Star Wars (IV, V, and VI), Star Trek, Monster Laffs, Batman, JFK, and RFK come to mind. If any of those sets appeal to you, watch their auctions closely.

  • I have a large collection of Magic the Gathering cards. I am registered for the Unlimited set. I collect 10's and some 9's. The major cards can go for 500-1000 a piece in gem condition. I also have unopened starter decks from that set.

I think the late 70's Charlie's Angels set(s) would be interesting, if I wanted to try something of this type.

I love the history and art that vintage non sport cards bring to the table.
Here is 1 of the sets I'm working on from 1887
they are tough to find in any grade. Produced by Duke tobacco
called Sea Captains. In the day these men were popular figures, like movie stars.
Here is a scan I lifted off the site that Griffins mentioned...jay

  • I put together in the last three years a mid grade Mars Attacks set. I chose it because it was my favorite non sport issue when I was a kid. Pick something you remember fondly and take your time putting it together. Good Luck

There are a couple other classic non-sports sets that are very widely collected, including in graded condition - 1952 Topps Look 'N See and 1954 Topps Scoops (both of which make forays into sports figures). 1956 Gum Adventure is regarded as a mixed sports/nonsports set, and is a key boxing set.

I'm almost complete on the Gum Adventure set (6 more to go) and am in the middle of a Fleer Indians set. There are several more that I am anxious to start in the near future.

  • Does anyone collect aviation related cards?

These are in the latest Mastro auction, I didn't even know there was a Howard Hughes card. Very, very cool....

Well, they're not graded, but here's a few of mine:

1991 Topps Desert Storm (all three series, with all the stickers)
1994 Ertl Harvest Heritage (I assembled this out of a carton of packs, and got the whole regular set, but I'm one short of completing the gold foil insert set; forget the name) image
1986 & 1987 ALF (both years, with all Boulliva Baseball Cards and all stickers)
A 30-something card Peanuts set I believe from around 1991
Presidents (45 cards), Presidental Elections (9 cards), and Bill Clinton (15 cards) sets from Pro-Line or Pro-Set (I forget) that I bought in 6th grade
1994 five card set from Citgo commemorating the 25th anniversary of humankind's greatest moment/achievement; the first moon landing. image

I'd also to get these at some point (if someone ever offers the complete set):
1989 Kentucky's Finest Series 1; remember those so-called "Jordan College Rookies" from SAH? These are kinda like that
