Another Broken Holder in the Mail

I have had over 2000 ebay transactions involving graded cards and have had three arrive damaged. Two were simply put in a paper envelope with no other protection, including the one I just received...broken in half. I didn't bother with insurance because 1) it was only a $4 card [PSA 9 1977 Topps Cloth Wayne Garland] and 2) the seller advertised that it would be "well-packaged" for $2.99 S/H. I have sent two emails to the seller but no response. Now the money involved in this case is no big deal, but I hate being the victim of someone else's careless shipping effort. Is it worth a negative? What do you think?

  • I know your frustraton there are two sellers I deal with that as much as I beg for better packaging they just throw them in a padded envelope loose and usually 1 in 4 come to me with a chip in them. If it wasnt for the type of cards they have I needed they wouldnt be on my list of people to buy from. The sad thing is to pack them proper would require another 10 cents worth of bubble wrap. Some people just dont get it.
ALWAYS LOOKING TO BUY HIGH GRADE 79/80 OPC HOCKEY !!! & Upper Deck "Ice Scripts" Cards

  • I had a PSA 8 1971 card arrived cracked in the middle - front and back - and what looked like someone hit it with a hammer over the label. It was in a bubble mailer with no other protection. The seller said he'd never had a problem before and I should have paid fot insurance. I said that I expected more for the $3.50 he charged for shipping... after several more e-mails, he reluctantly agreed to give my money back (probably because he'd already left positive feedback and was afraid of getting a negative (I didn't)... by this time, I was tired of dealing with him and let it drop.

You can mail one graded card in a bubble mailer with a couple pieces of cardboard for a little over $1.00. Anybody that charges more than $2.00 is overcharging for shipping.

the seller needs to refund your money or he/she deserves a negative.

if they want the card back they should pay that postage as well.

I've only had this happen once (the '62 PSA 7 Billy Williams which has a cracked, but not pulverized, holder.) I still haven't sent that in, but I will sooner or later.

In the wake of that experience, I only get stuff from people that I've bought from in the past and that I know package well or people who have multiple feedbacks specifically mentioning their careful packaging. And I never buy anything from anyone who doesn't offer insurance unless it's easily replaceable (like in the $10-15 range.)
