Does anybody remember the BuyTV Network from a few years back?

It aired in the early 2000s and typically sold sports cards, similar to Shop at Home, but without the high prices and the obnoxious Don West. image Anyhoo, what I loved about watching BuyTV Network was that the co-hosts looked like they were really having fun and I loved the clever sound effects they did, especially "SWOOPING TIME!!!" (with the sound of a raven diving down), and I think they did a train sound too. One of my favorite moments was when they showed a Kenny Rogers card and one of them started singing, "You painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair..." in a rather bad Kenny Rogers voice. image

Anyway, does anybody else remember the BuyTV Network and liked watching it as much as I did? It's a shame they went under... image

... though the name Don West brings back GREAT memories ....

ahhh...the good ol' days! .... remembering him rifle through pack after pack while Kenny chimes in about the "unbelieveable value" these cards are.

  • It could have been a local access channel. I remember a couple of shows on at 2 AM with some old timers (not the entertaining type) that would follow coin shows. It was really nice because they would just run a slow motion slide show with some really nice Goudeys, tobacco issues etc with some pretty steep price tags on them (699, 750, 1,200). Every once in a while there would be a few 100 dollar cards sprinkled in and you could hear when a phone would finally ring. Interesting for the time since they were all "one available only" and not the standard "We were able to get another 1,000 of these because we know what they are worth and are blowing them out at only 700 dollars each available on flex pay...."

There was a similar show that was based in FL I think. They would just display cards and say the price. It was like they just had a shoe box and would pull random cards, only one avaialbe. Sometimes they would keep putting cards up there and auction off the whole board. It was pretty interesting.

Has anyone seen the late night art show that is on now? They have huge retail prices like $25,000 and they auction the items off and usually get about 10-20% of the retail but still a lot to drop at 3:00 AM. They go through 50+ pieces a night and I can't help but wonder who is buying this stuff and how they keep getting more. Seems like th market would saturate quickly.

I was in college (University of Kentucky) in Lexington at the time, if that helps any.
