Under what conditions would a card come back AUTHENTIC?

I'm not familiar with it at all but I think you can submit cards with the request of just determining if a card is authentic or not. But aren't there other conditions where you send a card in to be graded and they return it to you slabbed as Authentic? Anyone know why this happens or am I wrong?
Thanks for the help.

It is not something that can be requested on just any card.
1955 Bowman Raw complete with 90% Ex-NR or better
Now seeking 1949 Eureka Sportstamps...NM condition
Working on '78 Autographed set now 99.9% complete -
Working on '89 Topps autoed set now complete
<< <i>They usually only SLAB cards as AUTHENTIC when the card is an extremely high end card.........such as early Mantles, Wagners, Ruths etc.

Yep, thats why they say PSA may choose to label.."authentic"

On the PSA submission form there are two boxes you can check off for autograph cards.
With Grade
No Grade (*No Grade is assigned but card is authenticated and encapsulated)
So you can request an auto card to have a numerical grade. If at that point the card cannot be grade (for whatever reason), it will get the Authentic designation
