Any thoughts on what this is?

I have a few coins that I have always wondered about.
This is the first. Real?, history? and value would be really cool.image

    Real.

    1st Coin:

1/48 thaler, can't remember the country.

    2nd Coin:

Denmark 1771 1 Skilling KM# 616.1 I believe. Value: $3.00 or so in that condition.

The first one looks like it must be from one of the German States.

  • Any time i see "Einen", the German States leap to mind. Both coins are definitely real. I'd say the 1692 one is a $15-$25 coin (just a guess though). The '1692' date is pretty cool as its a pretty well known date in American history, what with the 1692 Salem Witch Trials

The first one almost looks Austrian-Netherlands to me but I can't find it anywhere.

It has to be one of the Saxonies. That's who the arms in the lower quadrant belong to.

Yep! And if you want to know what he looked like, here's a larger denom with his portrait (currently on ebay):

  • Hi!

The second coin is danish coin. That was a very popular coin at this time. Cobber and about 11,63 gramm. Minted about 55 million coins at three different mints
under king Christian 7. in the mints Altona (northern Germany), Kongsberg (Norway) and København (Copenhagen). These three places has been a part of the danish empire at this time. There are many varieties of this coin.
    But the most interesting is:
This coinwas called by the people "Kussemønt" what means "C.u.n.t." coin, because of the two letter "C" on the back. Also because of that the wife of the king Christian 7. had a affair with the medical attendant of the king (Struensee)
    A "c.u.n.t" with a crown --- the queen! ;-)

Link in danish about the coin
Scandinavian and US coins are my pleasure!
