Raw pricing help

I am going to my local Mall show tomorrow and meeting up with a local dealer (Larrie Dean) who is bringing in some raw 54 bowman football cards for me to look at. He is very old school and doesn't like grading cards. He said he still has a 100 card voucher Joe Orlando gave him to try it out(wonder if he will sell it). I have only bought graded cards for my set so far from eBay and I am going look through what he has and try to find what I think are 7's or better to submit. He said there are several in NM or better condition.

What is a fair price to pay for raw commons and SP's? I am so use to SMR and eBay I have no idea what raw commons are valued at. I will buy the star cards already graded. Can anyone help on these values, a best guess is fine.

Thanks

Chris

  • Cris,

My comments are go backwards go through ebay get the prices for 7's or 8's and compare. But make sure you look for wrinkles. Buy a beckett and you'll know where he stands already going in. Its great for you on low pops but reverse on common cards.

I try to examine each card carefully and match it up with its price to determine if it's undergraded or overgraded for the price. If its undergraded, I buy. If overgraded, I don't. Be sure to look for light wrinkles, roller marks, rubber band marks on edges, etc. Those are the killers that will hurt your grades. Take a loupe or a magnifier.
