1954 Wilson Weiner set- finally got the Teddy

I have been looking for an upgrade to my Ted Williams for roughly three years and finally found a PSA 6 to go with my set. I have an incredible PSA 1 that has resided in my set during this time, but have always come up short in the bidding to get a PSA 6 or PSA 7. I purchased the Ted Williams from Heritage Auctions two weeks ago and it was a great buy. I know Griffins and Interchanges would find this a wonderful find as they have been working to upgrade their sets for the past six years.
It is always nice to finally get the last and most important card upgraded to the level that you want it.

Congrats Shane! I"ve got a few sets that are down to one card, and if I ever finish one it'll be a big day.
Haven't paid attention to Wilsons in years, are they still as competitive as when you, me, Scottie, Dave and Dan were going at it?
Heritage must've killed you between their excessive buyers fees and sales tax, but a 6 in that card is a good deal at any price.
    What next?

    Thanks Marc, Griff, Arny-
As for a scan, I don't have a scanner but the card is on Heritages website if anyone wants to post it here. It is very nice. The prices on Jab, Fox, Willaims are still very hot, some of the others have slowed down a little. I still would like to upgrade the Stephens, Jablonski and Hack but have not found a really nice card in those yet. I have been thinking about starting a T205 or 33 Goudey set next, but have not found the time or the opportunity to explore that option. The Tip Top bread set is still baking, but it should be done in a year. HA

Arny thanks for the scan bro. There is a scratch on the front of the holder that is not on the card. I am very pleased with the card and I think it has better eye appeal than a PSA 6.

What does your PSA 1 look like and the obvious question is what are you going to do with it?
  • Congrats Shane

    All the best,

Thanks Mark- let me know the status of those Tip tops.
Sagard- The PSA 1 is gorgeous. It looks like a PSA 5/6-the only flaw is there is a spider crease in the card. When you tilt the card at an angle you can see roughly 7 hairline wrinkles run through the middle. I would have thought it would be a PSA 2/3 with the wrinkles because of how clean the card is. My plans are to keep the card. It really is a nice one.

What range of prices has PSA 6's and PSA 7's sold for over these past few years?

    TIA

Shane - Great Job on a truly tough set.
the Williams PSA-6 is sweet! ...jay
  • Congrats Shane. I am TOTALLY interested in the PSA 1, when/if you are ready to part with it.
You got a GREAT price on it (even with the juice) as I was one of the underbidders & was following it.
The Williams Wilson Franks card is my favorite card of all time.

Congrats again! How thrilled you must be!

  • Finally got one. Nice job Shane. Looks like it was worth the wait
I've been waiting to upgrade my Ennis for about, oh, 20 years. I know the feeling, although it's a much less glamorous card.

Thanks guys. I have been looking for one of these for a long time. A psa 6 showed up on Ebay and it went for $12,700. It was a really nice card. I threw in a bid at 10,600 and lost out by two grand. The two PSA 7's over the past three years have sold for around $15k. Drent had a PSA 7 in his auction I believe last time around, but the card was miscut horribly and should have been graded a PSA 7mc (IMHO). I was looking for a high grade card and finally won one.
