I'd love to see Cal finally get a BCS game and the money that comes with it.
<< <i>That was the year Cal got bounced, but they lost to Texas Tech 45-31 in the Holiday Bowl and Texas beat Michigan in the Rose... >>
And?
It should have been Cal in the BCS game.
<< <i>All I'm saying is hindsight being 20/20, Texas deserved it over Cal, who lost to an inferior team in the Holiday Bowl...The bowls suck, anyway! >>
How can you say Texas deserved it over Cal? Cal won the final week of the season, and Texas didn't play, yet moved ahead of them into the BCS bowl game.
The bowls may suck, but it cost Cal over $4.5 million+, that's all I'm saying.
A more important question is whether they have a shot at the national championship. Currently, they have an outside shot....it will take a lot of things to fall in their direction (for instance, SEC teams losing [which is unlikely given Auburn and FLA have already gone through the tough part of their schedule], Texas losing) to make their case stronger, but they have an outside chance (put them in the same category as Arkansas, Norte Dame). Their chances were markedly diminished when USC lost. Even though I am happy USC lost, meaning Cal takes sole possession of 1st place in the Pac 10, the downside is a Cal win against USC doesnt mean as much. If USC came into their Nov 18 meeting undefeated...and Cal beats USC..then Cal becomes a possible contender for the national championship. Even though a USC win still would look good...especially if USC beats Oregon and Notre Dame....it's not as strong as it would be had USC's only loss been to Cal.
As far as Cal being screwed over a BCS bowl a few years ago....yes, they were. Computers and rankings had Cal above Texas. The Rose Bowl went with Texas because they are a more nationally reknowned team. The numbers help to put a team in contention for a BCS bowl....but in the end....when a committee needs to decide on whether to choose numbers or notoriety...they choose the latter because of profit (of course, taking away conference winners out of this equation).
<< <i>I don't think the PAC 10 has an automatic BCS bowl bid. >>
I think conference winners for the big 6 get an auto bid.
Atlantic Coast Conference
Big 12 Conference
Big East Conference
Big Ten Conference
Pacific Ten Conference
Southeastern Conference

<< <i>I like Cal and hope they play in a decent bowl... hopefully the Rosebowl >>
