PayPal Problem (O.T.)

I have a problem and I hope someone can help explain what to do. I just got a new credit card (VISA) and I would like to add it to my PayPal account and then remove my old credit card. But, when I try to add it using My Account and then the Profile tab - like you're supposed to do I believe - and I enter the card information, I get the message that "We cannot add this card at this time. Please add a different card or complete your Expanded Use enrollment with a card already registered to your PayPal account." I've tried this for a couple of days now and I'm getting real frustrated. PayPal has not answered my inquiry about this. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to get the card added?

i think the expanded use thing is where they want to bill your card a penny or something, then you have to check it on your bill..

i really have no idea though.. good luck..

Make sure your new card has been activated.

If you are ONLY trying to add a card - and NOT remove one - it should
    work.

DO NOT try removing the old card, until the new one is onboard.

Sometimes, none of that panel works IF you have ANY transactions
    pending.

You may have to call PayPal on the phone to solve the problem.

  • Storm - yes, I'm reluctant to remove the old card until the new one has been added. Also, the new card has been activated (yesterday). I know it's working as I used it for the first time at a supermarket today.

  • Just out of curiosity, is this a brand new card or the same card with an updated expiration date? I'm not sure why there is a problem as I have three credit cards registered to my paypal account.

  • Sorry I can't help you with your issue since I closed my Paypal account 2 years ago due to their lack of customer service.Sound familiar.I am totally surprised thay haven't tried to help you with your issue.Try accepting payments w/ Paypal. You haven't experienced poor customer service until you try to resolve some of those issues.Maybe some of those Paypal lovers from other posts on this board, who never buy from anyone unless they take Paypal as a form of payment, might be able to tell how to get someone to call you back.Good luck,as you'll probably need it dealing with this company.

  • From Paypal Help:

Why am I having trouble registering my credit card?

There could be several reasons why you are having trouble registering your credit card:

Different Addresses - The address where you receive your credit card statement must exactly match the address you enter when registering that card with PayPal. Check your credit card statement, and then try registering your credit card again.
Incorrect Card Verification Number - Discover, MasterCard, and Visa list a three-digit verification number on the back and to the right of the card number. American Express lists the four-digit verification number on the front and to the right of the card number. You may have entered your Card Verification Number incorrectly. If a Card Verification Number is not available, please try a different card.

Note: Account holders outside the U.S. are required to add a Card Verification Number.
If you are still having trouble:
Try another card. This card may not be compatible with the PayPal system.
Try again later. You may be able to successfully add your credit card at a later time.
Try an alternate funding source. You can always make a payment using your PayPal account balance or your bank account.

    Hope this helps.

  • Scott - it's a brand new card; not a new expiration date. (Thx for providing that info. but it didn't solve the dilemma. I don't see why the card would be incompatible with their system as it's a VISA like my old card is. I guess I'll try adding the card again in a few days.)
