First Grades From PSA, 1985 Topps Football

Just got my PSA club free grades back. Ouch. I busted a 1985 Topps football wax box and took the 5 best looking cards out as well as a Warren Moon card, which I didn't think was as high quality as the others. As you can see, it seems to have made no difference. I also have 25 others I felt were the best quality cards from the wax box. I may submit 3 others (Marino, Payton, passing leaders) but since I didn't get any 9's or 10's, I won't be submitting a lot of these again. Cheaper to buy already graded 9's on ebay.

I just looked at them. 99% had white showing on one or more corners. The ones I submitted looked like they should have been 9's, but I haven't looked at enough cards to grade consistently. I would have thought there should have been at least a few 9's in a full wax box.
Buying wax is usually an incredibly cost-inefficient way of putting a set together, so if you're on a budget you may want to look for other ways to get the cards you need (if you already know this then I apologize in advance for sounding patronizing).
Sending in 1970, 1971 and 1972 football. So I will be thrilled with 8s and maybe a 9.

I feel your pain. I have opened up recently wax packs, rack packs, grocery rack packs, cellos, and a vending box. Out of all that I found one card worth turning in and that was a Marcus Allen. It came out of the vending box and although it did come back a 10 I still won't get all the money back that I put in. I would stick to buying already graded cards for this very frustrating set, but if you decide to buy more packs stay away from the grocery racks and cellos. Corners are always f'd up.

<< <i>Crack and resubmit as many times as necessary, until you get what you are happy with! >>
Well I do older cards basically 1955 topps and bowman so the grades are a bit tougher to get, I have a handful of 75, 78 opc, 85 topps, and some other new stuff I am submitting under this special. The newer stuff is where the 7 and 8's kill ya!

I no longer submit to PSA, and I have found another grading company, that is not Beckett, GEM, or GAI related, that I submit to. But I generally do not grade to sell, most things I send in for grading are cards that I plan on being buried with! I would just sell a card raw should I want to sell it. I generally just like the protection encapsulation provides with the black insert, frames the card much better IMO! If I wanted to profit any off the hobby, I would still do Gibraltar Trade Center shows like I did in the early '90s, but spending weekends there again is a waste of my time. I am usually too hungover on the occasional Saturday or Sunday to even want to crawl out of bed by 7 a.m., just to get there in time! The last time I did a show there anyways, there were more comic and non-sportscard dealers there anyways, I quit doing shows regularly around the time Pogs were like, in!
I would not doubt that often enough, PSA does undergrade a card, just so someone pays more to resubmit it!
