New mini size SCD

Anyone else notice how small the SCD is in size. I almost threw it away thinking it was advertising from my local pizza joint. The ads are smaller and the ink is lighter and harder to read. Maybe they should give us some reading glasses as a incentive to re up. Thanks alot T.S.!!!!!!

    Since the quality and the size have gone down, has the actual price gone down too?

    No...They have a promo 39.95 to 42.95 re up price. If you have payed anything more than that you are even more messed up than myself

    They almost always have a $24.95 for the year offer especially to those past customers to re-up.

    Hi Spaz

    I reported on what I thought at the time was an all time low at 60 pages for SCD.

    I also got people a 6 week complimentary subscription to give them a new shot at the publication.

    But, I have to admit, after 14 yrs of continuous subscribing, I'm a bit disappointed.

    But, IMO, this is not the fault of the publication but where people advertise - if one takes out a full page ad for an entire year - the budget is about 40K - a lot of guys can do way better on ebay and a linked web page.

    However, I will tell ya - a week doesn't go by when I don't pick up some interesting information that would've never crossed my table.

    E.g. - the modern market - IMO, there's a lot of disinformation and just plain wrong information about what is going on in the new product market. Many think the sky is still falling when, in fact, there has been a nice improvement in the market - that is reported in SCD and other publications.

    My thought on SCD instead of "Voice of the Hobby" should be more aptly titled "Voice of the Advertiser". with articles consisting of nothing more than recaping or previewing the advertisers auctions. The autograph articles describing the changes in players signatures are interesting. But all in all no in depth or like in the old days price guide of card etc that its hardly worth 49.95 to me if i did not get it FREE would not bother. Will be interesting to see how many subscribers they have when they post i. Overall just a quick 30 at best read and in the newspaper bin is all now days.

    I haven't decided whether I will renew this time.

    Altho everytime I say it - I do.

    The 3 part article on Gloves finishing in the Nov 10 issue was pretty good - and the update on DiMaggio's signing styles was informative - tho not earth-shattering or anything.

    I will say - at less than a buck a week - I do learn stuff.

    I understand peoples frustration with SCD and other publications which is reflective of some of the hobby woes but it would be sad to kill the messenger if you know what I mean.

    I just dont think that SCD reads well anymore. I think Tuff Stuff has improved recently with its articles such as the1968 and 1955 football sets. They are sister publications and it seems that one gets more emphasis than the other. Why cant SCD cover the stuff that we talk about on the boards such as the big 1975 mini case break up and collectors questions that we answer here?. I miss the days of 3-4 pages in the magazines and books where collectors ask questions. Today it seems to be a complaining forum when you get a read. And Yes, Stone I am like you that reups every year hoping that it will turn the corner...Spazzy
