Help, Seller has conf # for item, but I never got it!

The seller claims he sent the item and that it was delivered to my PO Box on 10/30/06. I did not get the package. Anyone been in this situation before? The seller has the delivery confirmation #, so I will lose with PayPal. I plan on going into the Post Office on Monday. Anyone had people put items in the wrong PO box before?? I have the small PO Box, so the item would had to have been placed into a box for me. I hate this crap!!!! It's a $78 purchase, so not chump change I guess.

  • See if he'll send you a scan of the delivery confirmation number so you can bring it with you to the PO.

Maybe the package was to big to fit in your box and they didn't put the slip in. I bet it turns up at the PO.

    Best of luck, Bob C.

  • He gave me the delivery confirmation #, so I have that to go on. I had some other packages delivered this week, that I had to sign for. Maybe they put them all together in some bin, but only gave me 2 of the 3 packages. Hopefully the delivery confirmation # will help me, somehow I think it might hurt me.

Is it actually a PO box, or is it one of those mail services like Mail Boxes Etc.?

I have a service and I would never have a card delivered there. I'm forever finding other people's stuff in my box, which means my stuff sometimes ends up in other people's boxes. My service just recently moved and I went in to get my mail, but I didn't have my key. I went up to the kid (who I'd never seen before) and asked for the mail in my box. He said sure, went into the back room (where the door was wide open) and gave me my mail. I said "You want to see some ID don't you?" and he said, oh yeah....okay.

Sorry for the rant - hope your stuff shows up.

We're supposed to scan as attempted delivery anything that doesn't fit in the box, and then when you come to the counter to pick it up then the clerk scans it as delivered. Some (lazy clerks at) offices scan as delivered anything that they get for the box section and then put the bigger ones on the shelf and leave you a slip.

If it's scanned as delivered, get the tracking # and check at usps.com and see WHEN they said it was delivered. It'll show the time of day it was delivered.

It's possible that it was put on a wrong shelf depending on the size of your PO and the way they store parcels.

If it's scanned as delivered and it's not there you're probably screwed. If the clerk tells you there's nothing they can do then ask for the station manager or postmaster. Tell him/her that you didn't get it, that it was scanned as delivered whatever time. Tell them how much ebay/online shipping you do and how much you receive, and ask if you should take that business to ups/fedex/dhl.

If they think you should do that, get the name from the ID badge, and file your complaint at usps.com. The station manager will get a red email from district asking them to explain what happened. They REALLY don't like those!

  • No, this is the actual United States Post Office PO Box. I have more information from the seller, such as the delivery confirmation #, insurance #, and the size of the package (a bit larger than the 550ct box).

I purchased a PO Box at the Post Office so they wouldn't leave stuff at my door.

Thanks for the support, I really hope it's just there at the Post Office on Monday.

  • Well I went into the Post Office this morning. Showed the postal lady the usps.com delivery confirmation website printout and gave them the insurance #. Additionally, I showed her a 550ct box and said it weighed 2-3lbs. She returned in two minutes with the package! Her explanation was that the worker scanned the delivery confirmation, but then realized it was insured, so I had to sign for it. She didn't know why I had not received a package pick-up slip in my box.

Looks like I got lucky on this one.

  • Nice. At least you got the package. Mistakes can happen from time to time but it's good to see you ended up on the winning end.

Kingraider...I'm happy to hear the news. Your story is exactly why I use a Post Office Box (have never had a package lost/stolen in over 15 years).

PO box is the way to go, especially if you are not home during the day for the pick ups. I havent had any problems with my deliveries. Just some that probably were never sent, we all know how ebay works at times. Otherwise I havent had any issues with the PO itself. Its great, I can get most of my mail any time of day (except for signature required items). Thats great when your gone from 6:30 AM- to 6:30 PM M-F. Plus I dont have to explain large boxes full of generally not that expensive cards. As she would say, "do you really need any more."
