Any DRAKES EXPERTS around??

i was wondering if Player MASTER set collectors consider the 1987 and 1988 Drakes Baseball card issues to be mainstream...they had MLB logo and had both back and front panels......
the problem is that you have to hand cut them i guess.....
are they better individually had cut, or kept on the panel with the 2 or three other cards and then cut out?
any info on these cards is appreciated!

I think time will eventually place more significantly premiums on the panels in top grade.

<< <i>when you say panels, you mean not the entire bottome of the box, but all three cards together, cut out as one big card
?? >>
Basically.
YOu can have the whole box, too - but they're always messy unless they were never folded and distributed.

<< <i>does anyone have a scan of a graded panel? will that have to be sent under tall boys special dut to the size? >>
No - Tall Boys are only big enough for the two-card panels. There are no holders for the four-card panels. I recently sold some of the three card panels which can fit into the check holders.

<< <i>if you cut them with a scissor, are the edges graded also, or do they give leeway because they know it was HAND CUT? >>
Did not cut myself.
If you cut with a scissor, I GUARANTEE you that it will be uneven and look like crap. You need a more professional cutter - whether it is something lying around the office, or something you can pick up at Home Depot.
Remember - the cut will figure in to the grading, since any decent cutter can ensure great centering and greater corners. So a sloppy cut will be downgraded.

also the 1987 drakes are small before being cut....they will definately not be the same size as a standard card.......its amazing how few of these cards are in the POP report when there are players who appear on these cards who have master sets being built.....
<< <i>is it possible to take too much off the edges and then have the card not meetminimum size? or does hand cut give more leeway?

Yes. If you cut off too much the card may not end up being slabbed.
If you cut inside/on the lines, your card may be slabbed as "Authentic", as opposed to a numerical grade.
Fandango:
PSA is only very recently grading the panels - so I'm not surprised that there are few of them graded. As for the individual cards - I don't think [m]any people who originally cut the panels up into the individual cards envisioned what PSA's grading paradigm would be. To get high-grade individual examples under the PSA methodology, you effectively have to run the one or two surrounding cards because you have to cut into that card's borders to preserve that single in high grade. Thus - 90% of the singles that existed before PSA started grading them would probably only qualify as "Authentic" because of how PSA has decided they will grade them.

also i measured the 87 drakes on the box and they are 2mm short lengthwise and width of a standard card...why wouldnt they make these standard size since they were licensed by MLB? that is my concern with these issue, that even if they were cut perfectly, PSA would say they dont meet minimum size requirements and not be slabbed....
does the John Woody ever visit these boards? and does he have a screen name>?
<< <i>it seems the single cards would be more desirable because the single cards could be put into a player master set, whereas the full panels dont really fit into any collectable set...is this logic flawed?

The panels can be included in the Master Sets. And you can create a registry set of the panels, as ArmourPhil has done for the Kraft panels.
I'm not sure your comments about standard size. If you cut outside the lines, they are the correct size for the issue. There is no way to have a "minimum size requirement" grading on a hand cut card. It is either authentic [e.g. cut within the lines], or worthy of an assigned numerical grade [e.g. cut outside the lines]
