Old newspaper articles

My mom kept newspapers for me when I was a kid of most major sporting events. The newspaper collection starts in 1969 all the way through today.

I was visiting her today and she asked me if I was interested in taking the collection to my house for storage. I was going through them and this one kinda stood out from the rest due to it being so colorful. Just thought I would share it with the group. The paper is dated: Thursday January 25, 1973.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I might have some old newspaper items that might be fun to check out. I've actually got TWO days off this weekend, so I'm lookin' for fun things to do -- and that would qualify as one!

Hope you find more treasures like that one...

Great stuff! I think those old pictures and ads are hidden treasures that would look great framed.

    Great stuff Bunker!

Having historically significant newspaper clips - too cool.

I was looking in a 55 WS program and this popped out:

That's some significant "air" under Snider's feet!

I used to save significant newspaper events but it got to be too much.

Thanx for sharing - great diversion from cards.

These were in a paper Matt sent me last week. Anybody need a nice car?

Bob Cerv = not as good of a jumper as Duke Snider

And did somebody say Warren Spahn?

Definitely some nice vintage artices and photos!

I went through a box of stuff and found some scanable articles. Most were too big -- usually large sections of the Minneapolis Tribune in the '60s-'70s. Here's a watershed point in players' salaries that I saved from my hometown paper, The Fairmont (MN) Sentinel:

  • Here's a turning point in Twins' history -- Carew's first year! This is most likely from the Mpls Tribune:

  • This was neat. I found some World Series images from 1963-1965. Here are the first two from the '63 Series:

I've always loved this shot of #7...

  • From the 1964 Series:

Berra giving Bob Gibson's nose a tweak(?!) after he beat them in Game 7!

  • And one more from the '65 Series -- Twins vs Dodgers:

    Bunker,

I just remembered that I have an entire box of the Mpls Tribunes out in the garage from the 1985 season -- Puckett's 2nd with the Twins. I'll bet I could find some nice material in there to scan. I'll have to work on that this weekend.

Thanks for taking the time to share your treasures!

I came across this today. The newspaper is dated Thursday September 12, 1985. It is to bad that they didn't do this in color:

I found this one a couple of days ago and put it on the wall in a frame. It is from 1974 and is very colorful:

On your Rose card poster from 1985, there is a color poster of it. It used to appear on Ebay frequently. As a Perez collector I purchased it because the 1984 card featuring Rose is actually Perez's 1984 card (look at batting pose). Somehow they mixed and matched that card. If I can dig it out I will shot a scan of it.
