Rudy - the Movie - Bedside Review

HBO showed the movie late this morning.

Not wanting to get out of the bed - does that make me a bed potato? - I watched it for the 20th time.

I even found an Official Rudy web.

Now, I know most of you have seen the movie. I think it's a must for anyone who, like myself, did not excel at sports but gave it our best.

And last, although we could speak volumes on the movie - how he stuck to his goals, how he was an inspiration to anyone who is thinking of giving up etc.

But, here's another take home message I would like to share...

1. We pray on "our" time - God answers on "His."

2. You don't have to prove anything to anyone BUT yourself. It doesn't matter what people think about you - it's far more important what you think of about YOURSELF.

Have you guys seen this movie? I rank it as one of my most enjoyable sports related flicks.

I've seen the movie a dozen times, usually get a tear in my eye at the end everytime, and never realized that was Vince Vaughn. I'm going to have to watch it again soon, even if I have to buy it. image

And don't make fun of me for shedding a tear. Something about the sports movies kill me. You should see what I look like at the end of "Field of Dreams" when he starts playing catch with his dad. Even a 6'1", 200+ pound construction worker like myself is no match for that one. image

  • Field of Dreams reduced me, a 5'11, 240-pound "tough guy" to a weepy little school girl. And darn proud of it!

    I, too, enjoyed Rudy.

Discovered later that the real-life Rudy was kind of a self-promoter for the movie. That kind of turned me off.

I heard that also - I know what you mean NJ.

So, for that reason, I just live in the world of the movie and the message if you know what I mean.

Many times the movie has come and given me the spark I needed to get moving on something that I was whining about.

And field of dreams - catch with Dad - like the ending of the Natural? Pure tear jerkers.

I'm old enough not to care what I look like when it comes to these kinds of movies.

This just means you're a person of good character and sensitivity.

Rudy was good, but Brian's Song (the original) gets me.
