Found this at a beach on Vancouver Island, Canada. Turns out its a rare variety or maybe a replica of.
Makes me wonder about who lost it... When I found it it was after a big storm that washed out lots of sand
and I was finding lots of hundred year old coins at the same time but this was the oldest coin I ever found.

That is one sweet find, congrat's and let's see more of what you have found.HH,Tom
Definitely will post if I get anything good this season, this is the start of the good hunting season on the west coast.
All the big winter storms are starting up and the ground gets nice a saturated from the rain.
That ain't no replica, or if it is, it's a very sophisticated, very old replica, and those two conditions are usually mutually exclusive when it comes to replicas.
I had a "friend" offer me one he said he'd dug. Obvious fake. He said, "yeah, but I dug it!" (The guy is a proven liar). I told him, "You might have dug it, but it's still a fake." I guess he was testing me. But I also know he would've taken my money if I thought it was real and offered to buy it.
If yours is fake, it would fool me!
Alot of them were american coins
There had been an old resort hotel at this beach in that time period so a lot of travellers would have come there
I doubt people back then would be making replicas. I think someone just thought it would make a neat necklace item.
I sent it in to PCGS to see what they would think and got back this.
Spectacular find! If I saw such a coin for sale, I would buy it for my Holey Coin Vest. If I dug one, though, I'd be ecstatic. Don't let anybody tell you that the hole detracts from the coin at all. Sure, it detracts from its monetary value, but not the least bit from its historical interest. What a superb find!
The fact that it was found on the "wrong" coast makes it all the more fascinating.
Also when you find something old and interesting you end up learning some history.

Congratulations!

<< <i>Even if you could find one just like it on eBay you FOUND yours and that is a heck of a lot more fun for a detectorist. >>
Absolutely agree!
You could look another lifetime and not find one of these.
I would be putting this one in a shadow box frame and it would go on the wall in my office! I would probably put a gallery light on it also just so the light would create a halo around it!
